Topic: Getting back into it.

I haven't done any animating in about three years, and I'm trying to get back into it. I've upgraded my equipment, and I'm trying to get used to it. This is shot with Dragon on a Canon DSLR with a nikon 28mm manual lens. I'm shooting it stopped all the way down to f22 to try and get as much in focus as I can. This is a short test to see the affects of changing focus mid shot as well as the effectiveness of my bluescreen.

Added another test.

Re: Getting back into it.

Very clear. Your blue screen is working better than mine at the moment.

Re: Getting back into it.

Great work on the key, it was very clear and had no colour spill.

I just need three more actors for my new film, check the casting call here.

Re: Getting back into it.

I was pleased with the bluescreen results. I literally had one click with keylight and a little slide up on the gain. The lens breathing is something I'll have to plan for better, but I'm happy with the sharpness overall.

Okay... Questions: what adapter do you use between the canon and the nikon lens?
What software do you use for green screening?

Re: Getting back into it.

I use a very basic adapter like this one. http://www.amazon.com/Fotodiox-Mount-Ad … amp;sr=8-2 The idea behind using a Nikon manual lens with a Canon camera is to reduce light flicker by isolating the aperture control. That way the camera is not constantly opening up the aperture and closing it for each frame. At f22, it's a pretty tiny hole to get exactly the same if the camera opens the lens up between each frame.

I used After Effects CS5 for the chroma-keying.

Re: Getting back into it.

Here's a animation/lipsync test. I animated this using the video reference feature in Dragon Stop Motion. As silly as it sounds, (and looked) I shot a video of myself doing the speech to the audio, and then loaded that into Dragon. I essentially copied my movements frame by frame as I animated.

The lipsync and facial animation was done in After Effects.
