Just going to throw in a wee bit here.
I kind of see both viewpoints. The LEGO is mostly considered as a child's toy. Kids may be more likely to look up Brickfilms, certainly, than adults. Sure, we'll look them up, but they may search on YouTube and become fascinated with the art of the hobby. They may also follow the lead of the leading Brickfilmers with the most views or who are well-known. At the same time, I do not want to generalize here, but not all kids are bread, butter, and angel wings. I remember as a wee lad I had a friend or two who, indeed, would be quite lewd and crude with the LEGO minifigures. There are just as many "clean" kids as there are "dirty" kids, I'd imagine. In the same vein, yes, the Brickfilms and Brickshorts do rather represent cultures and society. There's probably more explicit sexuality and violence in films than, say, fifty or sixty years ago. Much of the media today shows this. Now this isn't an excuse to make Brickfilms more violent and sexual, but at the same time, I feel like, just as with media, there will be many variants of Brickfilms as there are movies and television. There are clean, wholesome television shows and movies; there're violent, dirty, television shows and movies, and there are others that fit neither of the preceding categories. The diversity, if you will, that is there will probably also exist in the Brickfilming world because of the influence drawn from reality.
Mm, one more thing. In my Communications and Culture course in college, my professor brought up an interesting point. The Greeks were known for their love of fun, humour, play. How is it, then, that they wrote such famous and tragic, well, tragedies? A student answered that they were able to do it because they would not know joy without tragedy. A little food for thought concerning the morality. How might you teach your kids right and wrong if the wrong were, say, purged from the films?
Now, I'm rather rubbish when it comes to coherence in large paragraphs, but this is just a few cents of hopefully thought-provoking stuffs. All in all on this, I'll remain neutral.
(Hah, too me so long to write this little bit, I didn't see the posts above!)
