What frame size are you shooting in? eg: 1920x1080.

Look at the first page of the forum. It's gonna be 1080p at 2.39:1 aspect ratio.

And I have my own question: Are you guys going to release a second trailer, or are you just going to wait til the summer/fall to release the full film? I know that on your last trailer it says "Trailer #1" which makes me wonder.

That is a very good question.  The reason that we titled the trailer "Trailer #1" was so that if we decided to make another trailer people wouldn't get confused over which one we were talking about.  As for whether or not we are actually going to make another one, it all depends on time constraints.  And even if we did have the time, it would probably be shorter and something more like a teaser or tv-spot instead of a full-length trailer.  We don't want to give too much away after all. mini/wink

Re: The Squire and the Scroll

Brickfilms usually shouldn't have trailers.
Since they're usually so short, a trailer gives too much away.
Of course, one of a decent enough shot length would be acceptable for a rather long brickfilm, perhaps 10 minutes or so.

I agree, too many people make a trailer for 6 or 7 min. movies. It lessens the effect when the trailer is half as long as the movie.

Anyway, love your work BuilderBrothers, though the CGI could us a bit of work and the ax through is not quit as good as possible. I love your cam. movement though and the ax in flight was awesome, along with the hitting of the troll. mini/bigsmile

Keep up the awesome work. mini/wink

Re: The Squire and the Scroll

I do agree with both of you. However, this is going to be 30-35 minutes long, which, imo, is a reasonable length to have a trailer.

Re: The Squire and the Scroll

*Update*

We were working on the "Crystal Cave" sequence, and we came across a problem: the lights we used did not look right, the cave looked fake, and the crystals were very hard if not impossible to see.  We made the crystals glow in post-production, but the cave still looked fake due to the fact that the light in the rest of the scene was very drab and normal.  We considered using Christmas lights, but they are very clunky and a big pain to work with.  Because of this, we decided to come up with our own effect to get the job done.  After much experimentation, we found that using After Effects' 3D lights was a very effective solution, and with a little tweaking, we came up with this:

Before:

After:
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/BuilderBrothers/tSatS/finalpicsmall.png

As you can see, it is a very subtle effect, but it works (in our opinion) nearly if not just as well as filming with Christmas lights.  Also, there is the plus side of having an enormous amount of control with the colors, position, and brightness of the lights, which you don't really have with Christmas lights.  Also, please note that the images above are TESTS.  They are not actual footage from the film, and the effects you see are not finalized.  However, that does not mean we don't want critique.  On the contrary, please let us know what you think needs doing in this shot, and we will take whatever you say into account.  Also note that the jewels are DEFINITELY NOT a finished effect, and we are aware that they look very fake.

Re: The Squire and the Scroll

I like it. The mood is much better on the bottom frame. As for the effect. Pretty nice. While I personally really like in set physical lighting, I think your post pro comes pretty close. For the trade off between ease of setup and look, I say, "Very nice!"

The one thing you should be careful of is making the effect to pronounced. The blue jewel is just about perfect in my opinion. The green jewel is on the edge of being sort of obvious as an effect. If that makes any sense. I think one thing you might try in the green jewel's case is make the transition between light and dark around it slightly less sharp.

Anyway, I know this a test. I'm sure the final result will be great! I think this is any awesome story to make into a brickfilm (wish I'd thought of it first mini/tongue ). Love the progress you guys have been making. Keep it up.

Re: The Squire and the Scroll

And once again somebody else types exactly what I was thinking before I could say it. mini/tongue

I would like to clarify a little bit concerning the green crystal. While the blue one's effect is spot-on, that's because it's bright at the bottom, and gradually fades out as it goes up. The green one on the other hand is brightest 3/4 of the way up, and only on one side. There is also almost no fading out of the light, it goes from white, to dark green almost immediately. It would probably look a lot better if the lighting was set up like the blue crystals.

Other than that, the second shot looks amazing, and I'm waiting very impatiently for this film to be released. mini/wink

I couldn't have agreed more!

I do agree with Pritchard Studios and AnW though, the green crystal stands out a little too much. But I am really loving how it is looking overall; you guys do amazing work, can't wait for the the finished movie. mini/wink

Why would you ask that?..

Obviously if there showing you updates and its on a fan made brickfilming website with most people on here being teenagers, why would you be charged?

Silly question really.

My understanding is that it will definitely be free on Youtube.  Since they did not write the story themselves, although they are adding to it, they would not be allowed to sell the film anyway (not that they would want to).

I didn't think of that. I just wondered because it has to be costing them quite a lot. mini/eek

Re: The Squire and the Scroll

This isn't exactly a cheap hobby; plenty of people have put a lot of money into the brickfilms that they post on youtube.

Re: The Squire and the Scroll

In answer to your questions, we are going to have the film up for free on YouTube.  The reason for this (as Brick7 noted above) is that we don't own the rights to the story, and so the selling of a film based on this story would be a direct violation of copyright.  What we would like to do is have public showings of this film for free, but then afterwards ask for donations to support the creation of the film.  That way they are not paying to watch the film, they are instead paying us to support our hobby.
