Re: My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic - Appreciation Thread
I've been having similar thoughts, MP. I've been thinking about the progression of the villains in FiM and what they represent... FoalPapers on Twitter phrased it better than I could:
Consider the antagonists of the show: Nightmare Moon, Discord, Chrysalis, Sombra. Consider the order in which they’re presented...
Fear of the dark, of chaos and loss of identity, of change, of unhappiness – these are the fears we try to overcome as we grow up.
Fear of the dark belongs to childhood. Chaos and change become manageable with experience. But unhappiness? Aye, there’s the rub.
Children are more easily pleased. Happiness – contentment – comes harder to adults, and the fear of never attaining it runs deep.
True unhappiness – a lack of fulfilment – is the dread of adult life. Small wonder Sombra is less defined. He doesn’t need to be.
