Re: YouTube

It's nice to know the copyright status of everything you have in your films (and I believe there's a way to track the source of sounds you find on Findsounds.com), but I think YouTube is more concerned about the use of music and other more prominent audio clips than sound effects.

I still try to make sure all of my sounds are copyright/royalty-free, but I don't think YouTube cares as much about that.

Re: YouTube

So if I basically make sure I fix all the videos with copyrighted music I should be fine? If I do get in trouble, will it just be a cease and desist letter, or worse?

Re: YouTube

If you become a partner, it doesn't mean that all of your videos instantly become part of the revenue share program. You get to choose which ones you want to submit for revenue sharing, ones that you know are copyright free. If you have a video with copyrighted material in it, you can still keep it on YouTube, you just can't make money on it.

Re: YouTube

And how do you become a partner? I find it very confusing. I probably won't become one soon, just a thought for when I get better.

Re: YouTube

How long does it take YouTube to accept videos for revenue sharing? A month ago I got this Email:

YouTube wrote:

Dear NickDurron,

Your video Abduction 4 (HD) has become popular on YouTube, and we'd like to invite you to start making money from it by including it in the YouTube Partnership Program

Making money from your video is easy. Here's how it works: First sign into your YouTube account NickDurron. Then, complete the steps outlined here: http://www.youtube.com/ivp?v=UsN6U8gLRfI. Once you're finished, we'll start placing ads next to your video and pay you a share of the revenue.

We look forward to adding your video to the YouTube Partnership Program. Thanks and good luck!

The YouTube Team

I was pretty excited and surprised then, but not so much now, since I submitted the video almost two weeks ago and I'm not seeing ads around it.

Re: YouTube

Whoa, 1,000 views qualifies as popular to them now?

Anyway in my experience YouTube's been terribly inconsistent with timing.  The first time they took a couple months to reject me from the partnership program, the second time they took about a week to reject me, and the third time they accepted me in less than 24 hours.  I think geting my videos approved for revenue sharing, since then, has generally been quite a bit faster, though starting to actually see money come in on my Google adsense account took another month or two.  I was never in the situation of waiting on them to approve a video when I wasn't a partner, so perhaps there is a slower process at work; for me it usually takes a couple days at most for revenue sharing to be enabled on a new video.

Re: YouTube

I've also found Youtube to be a bit inconsistent in timing. But 1,00 views qualification? If so, I could be a partner for http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ekh1OH8T … re=related this.  But that was just now over 2K and it has been up for 1 year.  Abduction 4 has only been up for about a month and has 1000. Big difference.  That could be a possibility, in my opinion.

Re: YouTube

I applied like 3 months ago but never got a reply. mini/blankexpression

Re: YouTube

Understand there's a difference between becoming a partner and having one video accepted for revenue sharing, now.  You can have one popular video and get it accepted for revenue sharing, but still not qualify to become a partner.

On a side note, I thought you had to be 18+ to get money from YouTube.  I wonder if that could be a source of the problem for Nick since his account even lists him as 16, though I don't know why they'd send you that message were that the case.

Re: YouTube

The truth (olol rumor) has been revealed: You know how when you click "Account" is says how many total video views? It needs to be 100,000 views or more to get accepted.

Re: YouTube

Yes, I was a little surprised to see that, since 1000 views really isn't popular. However, I can't say I mind. As far as the age goes, my understanding is that only the Google AdSense account has to be tied to someone 18+, not the YouTube channel.

Re: YouTube

If you can get one or both of your parents to sign up for you, then it should be no problem. My Adsense account was originally created in my dad's name, and the checks would be made out to him which he would cash in my stead. When you turn 18, you can then take control of the account yourself.

Re: YouTube

I once had a video that had 1,000 views but I never got a message about becoming
a partner. Probably because that was last year and YouTube has changed a bit now.

Oh yes and I've nearly got a 100 subscribers mini/smile

Re: YouTube

I'm nearly at 1000 subscribers.
