Re: The Super Official BiM Upcoming Movie Updates and Discussion Thread

The Avatar trailer looks so awful. I'm probably not the only person to notice that the blue man in one shot had an incredibly lame CGI Dreamworks-style smirk.

Someone on another board brought to mind a rather horrifying prospect: Yellow Submarine with the Jonas Brothers. I hate to think it, but that's actually a very viable possibility.

And CG is so overused. I undertand if you have an Epic Sci-Fi film (IE: Star Trek) but to take the place of actors is just lazy and boring. Monsters vs Aliens was probally the last good non-Pixar animation. (Pixar actually take advantage of the CG movie to create original and awesome material)

I was looking forward to Shutter Island - partly just because I want to see a Scorcese film in the cinemas, I won't lie. But apparently now the release date has been moved to Feburary from November. mini/rolleyes It's probably something to do with the Oscars? Why else do they move dates that much?

Yeah, I'm a tad upset by that too, rstudios. I think it's speculated that Paramount wouldn't be able to fund an Oscar campaign for this year, but I dunno, it still seems pretty stupid.

MOL, I think you have rather misinterpreted the purpose of this thread.

I am looking forward to Avatar a lot. It's going to made by the guy who made Titanic, and he is using his own CGI program he designed himself, that is supposed to be really state-of-the-art.

Re: The Super Official BiM Upcoming Movie Updates and Discussion Thread

I saw the trailer to "Avatar" while seeing Inglourious !@#$%^&*. That movie looks so incredibly lame! The basic story provided in the trailer = Futuristic people turn into happy blue people with pointy ears who live on a planet in perfect harmony and then battle people in helicopters!!1! And who came up with the incredibly unoriginal name "Avatar"? Does it have anything to do with "Avatar: The Last Airbender"?

Well the "happy blue people" you were referring to were the aforementioned Avatars. Which very much disappointed me from the Avatar I was expecting. And, since they couldn't name two movies the same, they called this one Avatar and the TLA movie just, "The Last Airbender". Which was pointless because they used the font they used from The Last Airbender for Avatar.

Both films look horrible. The people who are really on the cutting edge of filmmaking are those who make stuff that is actually unique and strange, not pseudo-auteurs who play around with overrated technology.

Re: The Super Official BiM Upcoming Movie Updates and Discussion Thread

Yeah, I'm not really looking forward to AVATAR.

I'm liking what I've seen of A Christmas Carol so far.

The only films I'm REALLY looking forward to this year at the moment are 9, Shutter Island, and A Serious Man.

Films I'm looking forward to:

-Up (not out in the UK yet mini/rolleyes )
-9

And thats it. Movies have gone completely downhill.

I dont actually think its the Studios fault though. I just think its because every idea possible for movies has been used before, and therefore the only option is re-makes and sequels. I personally cant think of anything that hasnt been done before (apart from Mr Socially Impaired - but who wants to turn that into a movie?)

Eww, no. Tim Burton was original 20 years sgo.

I'm talking about non-commercial directors whom not many people have heard of.

I'm not being arse-y or sarcastic or anything here. But can you list a few of these directors? I'd want to see films that aren't particularly well known or mainstream...

Re: The Super Official BiM Upcoming Movie Updates and Discussion Thread

This can't be true, can it?

It seems so out of touch with the approach to the first two movies, though the inclusion of Catwoman as a character wouldn't be too surprising I suppose.  Then again, Heath Ledger was a surprising casting choice.
