I have no idea - maybe it's just that some of the actors didn't really connect with me or something, but there were a couple of parts, like as the hobbits are screaming when Boromir falls and they are carried off, that just struck me as absurd. Perhaps I was just in a weird mood.

Ah, man that's one of my favorite parts, lol. When Boromir gets shot with like fifty arrows before he dies. The slow-motion was used in an amazing way, IMHO.

Maybe I'm just too into that movie. mini/wink

The 400 Blows

Amazing, I loved everything about it.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Ok I got back from a film festival so there are a lot:

Woodstock: 40th Anniversary Director's Cutwith live appearances from Wavy Gravy, Paul Kantner (Jefferson Airplane), and Country Joe McDonald

I thought it was very awesome, although I had to miss the last two hours because it was very late at night. The music was freaking awesome along with the cinematography and some interviews. mini/tongue The living conditions at Woodstock were crazy. I'm surprised that people didn't die. It was also kind of disturbing that people were getting super high, even without drugs. There was even a whole 3 minute montage of people smoking marajuana in front of kids. I really liked the film, and I found out I would never go to Woodstock because of the living conditions.

The live appearances were great. They all sang at least one song. Country Joe McDonald did the F*** cheer, and Paul Kantner talked about he couldn't get off the stage when it was raining because his soul felt like it was 6000 miles below the ground because of the drug intake. The most memorable story for me though was told by Wavy Gravy. Wavy Gravy is a rock and roll clown who was paid to be the security. One morning he had to get some breakfast for the whole crowd so he got a whole bunch of cups and poured granola in it. When some people came up to eat, they said, "What is this !@#$?" He then said, "You aren't what you eat, but what you don't poop out, so just eat it." The whole theater laughed for a few minutes. Man, I just love this festival.

Sita Sings the Blues

It wasn't great but it was good. It was about the Ramayana told with jazz music and three different types of animation. I liked the on screen commentary by some silhouettes which was very funny. It was interesting to hear a new story and to see it in different animations. Very good

Departures

This movie was absolutely great. The plot was absolutely amazing and unpredictable. It was about a cellist whose orchestra recently dissolved so he finds a job to be a preparer for dead bodies. It was a beautiful film from Japan, and the subtitles didn't bother me at all. The cinematography was absolutely amazing, best I've seen from a modern film. I love this film and I think everyone should watch it.

Waterlifewith director Kevin MacMahon

This documentary is about the state of the great lakes. Being a kid from the great lakes it was interesting to see what's happening to my home. It made me realize what was happening that I didn't know about like the invasive plant species that made a thriving river into a basin of tall plants with no water in it. It was horrible to see these changes come in less than 20 years. It was interesting to hear from the director and I can't wait to help my home.

I'll post the next 5 films later.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Frogtrap did you see the Canned Heat performance of A Change is Gonna Come? I think it's awesome. I especially love the part at around 1:20 when the random fan runs on stage and everything is cool. That was so great. If there's one year I wish I had lived in, it was 1969.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Yeah bertl, I saw that part. It was awesome. at first I was like, is that his son? Then I knew it wasn't I wish I knew who all the people who were playing were because the first guy was epic but I don't know his name. mini/sad

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Yeah, it's a shame most of the awesome artists who performed at Woodstock then are forgotten about now. Oh the decay of information through generations... mini/sad

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Th Shawshank Redemption

This film was amazing, yet stayed rather clode to the original story-in short-AWESOME.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Frogtrap, I love Woodstock. The sequence near the beginning where the people are dancing around in the evening are amazing, and it's true that the interviews are awesome. I really think the mentality that people had then of just living together and helping each other out was genuine, and I wish there was more of it today. I'm going to college pretty much across the river from where the festival was, so I might visit the site sometime, haha.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

okay next films:

Learning Gravity with Thomas Lynch and director Cathal Black

Eh, it was okay. It was about Thomas Lynch, a poet and funeral director. I didn't enjoy it as much as my family. The constant grainy camera made it hard to enjoy and my seat was also very uncomfortable. mini/tongue The camera shots and montages were very thoroughly thought out to be almost exactly like the poems being said. I liked the ending sequence. It was great, but all in all the whole film and theater experience wasn't great.

Examined Life

Okay this documentary was way better than Learning Gravity I thought. It was just 8 different modern day philosophers talking about philosophy. It was rather good, but some philosophers lost me really fast. I like that where they were affected what they said and their analogies were very good. There were also very entertaining montages and camera shots. Some philosophers did a great job attracting the audience with comedy. A very good film

Food, Inc.

A great documentary. This film is about our food companies and the problems they give us in the US. It was horrible to see some things in that film, including a mother who lost her child because of e-coli contamination that was trying to gain support to make a law that closes down facilities with more than five instances of e-coli. She tried so hard to get that law passed and it never happened. Also, she had her rights taken away to settle her lawsuit with the company. The inhumane way people kill animals are horrible, and it still makes you sick because of the corn they feed the animals. Also, most of the people that control our company in the Bush years were part of these companies so no one could pass laws hurting them. America is truely in a deep hole and we need to find away out of it. IT is almost impossible to stop it. An eye opening documentary everyone should see.

Okay I'll do the last 2 films later. It's hard to write so many reviews! mini/bigsmile

It has everything to do with filmmaking.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Bella

Interesting film. Not as good as some of the hype I heard from other people( like that it was the best movie of 2007), but I enjoyed it. Was surprised at the PG-13 rating - there's only this one scene that has some blood in a blurred, quick-cutting sequence. It's definitely an actors movie - it only succeeded because its two leads seemed believable.

LORD OF THE RINGS, FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING
Awesome. The Cinematography was amazing, the acting was stupendous, and overall, one of my favorite movies. I am excited to watch Two Towers tonight or tomorrow night! mini/bigsmile
