James May’s Toy Stories
The first event will be held at:

Denbies Wine Estate, London Road, Dorking, Surrey RH5 6AA

On
Saturday August 1st 2009 from 10:00
James will be holding five Lego building sessions at which we can accommodate 120 people each. If weather means the event can be held outdoors as well we may be able to allow more people to take part.

The sessions will be held at 10:00, 11:30, 13:00, 14:30 and 16:00. All sessions will last one hour each. Every session will be filmed and so you must be prepared to appear on TV!

Due to the huge level of interest we have received we are turning this into a ticketed event – but there will be no charge.
You will be able to collect two tickets per person for one of the above sessions from 09:00 on Saturday morning.

Once the tickets are gone, you can wait to see if we can accommodate more people at the sessions but we can make no guarantees.

If you are unsuccessful on this occasion, you will be able to register your interest for future sessions.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT JAMES WOULD ALSO LIKE YOU TO BRING ANY UNWANTED LEGO WITH YOU THAT YOU ARE HAPPY TO DONATE TO HIS HOUSEBUILDING CAUSE.

Re: James May of Top Gear is building a full size Lego house & needs YOU !

Looks like it might be quite hard to get on this event, will have to leave very early in the morning to get there in time. Haven't got time to make a Bricks in Motion T-Shirt. So if you want to say hello, I'm 40 yrs old I will be dressed all in black, wearing an 'All Blacks' rugby shirt and will have a small green camera rucksack with me and if you are young make sure your parents are with you when you say hello, I don't want to be falsely accused of anything mini/lol

*********Here is the latest email from the organizers **********

Due to the high level of interest in this event, unfortunately we are unable to reply to individual emails.
IMPORTANT - UPDATED INFORMATION

Thank you for your interest in helping James May build his Lego house for his new BBC 2 series, James May's Toy Stories.

Please be aware that due to the huge level of interest we are now turning this into a ticketed event – but there will be no charge.

Six hundred tickets will be available from 9.30am - 120 tickets for each of the five sessions we are holding. Each person (adult or child) will only be allowed ONE ticket to ONE of the Lego building sessions and must collect their ticket in person. Once the tickets have gone, we cannot guarantee entry. We will accommodate more people if we can.

Please therefore consider carefully before travelling long distances as there is a risk you may be turned away on the day.  Due to filming commitments, please note that, unfortunately, there will be no photo or autograph opportunities with James.

The Lego building sessions are at 10:00, 11:30, 13:30, 15:00 and 16:30 - but tickets for ALL sessions will be available from 09:30. Every session will be filmed and so you must be prepared to appear on TV.

All children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The event is at:
Denbies Wine Estate, London Road, Dorking, Surrey RH5 6AA
On Saturday August 1st 2009

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, but please do remember we cannot guarantee entry. Remember to bring an umbrella in case you have to queue for a ticket and it's raining.

If you are unsuccessful on this occasion, you may be able to register your interest for future sessions.

PLEASE ALSO REMEMBER THAT JAMES WOULD ALSO LIKE YOU TO BRING ANY UNWANTED LEGO WITH YOU THAT YOU ARE HAPPY TO DONATE TO HIS HOUSE BUILDING CAUSE. They are not to be used during the day, as we must use new and undamaged bricks for maximum strength.

Your wish is my command mini/smile

I got to the site in Surrey at 7.30am and this photo was taken from the back of the queue by me at that time

An hour later and there were about 500 people behind me in the queue. At this point Hazzat turned up, I recognised him and said 'hullo' to him and his Dad. They conned me into letting him and his Dad join me in the queue, the 500 people behind us probably weren't that impressed, but ho hum, they were nice Lego fans, so no nastiness ensued.

After awhile we all moved up and got out free tickets, this ensured that we would get a place in one of the build slots as there wouldn't be enough time in the day for everyone to have a go. I imagine there were some disappointed people later on at the back of the queue.

We decided to go for the 10am build slot. The first one of the day.

Tables and crates of Lego ready for us to start:

We finally got in and sat at our table, and read the instructions. We were to build sections of the house, using 4x2 bricks. We had white bricks in our crate. No other bricks colours were allowed to be used. (more on this later mini/lol ).

Instructions:

Building commenced:

One of my finished sections:

Hazzat with one of his sections:

We built for an hour,  I got 8 done in that hour we were allowed to build in. 272 bricks for each section, so that works out at 2176 bricks by me alone. It was a giggle, James May stopped by at our table said Hello, (god he needs a hair cut) and was just as nice as he appears to be on TV.

Remember I said about using only the coloured bricks we were allocated. In our case, we had only white bricks. Well Hazzat smuggled a red brick in and put it in the middle of his white section. We all thought this was a giggle. But a guy from the production company didn't and made Hazzat take it out. Busted mini/lol

lol @ Hazzat. DEFINITELY something I would have done. But I might have used a bright green Power Miners brick.

Oh boy, JAM. mini/XD

I've been trying repeatedly to upload the footage I filmed, but the 1.5GB file just isn't being nice. Just be sure that I'm trying to get it to work!
