I can remember Nellster made a very good tutorial about gunshots in Gimp. It is on youtube, but i'm actually too lazy to search it.
Basically, you need a multi-layered editing program that can rotate clips. You take a clip from detonation films, key out the background (most of them will need a luma key) and match them up with the trigger pull and gunshot sound effect.
This is not Free but it has the ultimate skills for what you're on about.
FX Home is good for amateur film-makers who just want FIRE, or GUNSHOTS and not all the crappyness After Effects gives with codes and stuff.
Codes? After Effects? I don't think there are any types of expressions needed to key out a muzzle flash and lining it up with the footage. I think it's even better then FX Home, and I've tested both.

I use FXhome and it works better than AE and I have both.
This is going off topic, but no, FXHome is not nearly as good and powerful as After Effects. FX Home is very simple to use. After Effects is more difficult to master, but can be a very powerful tool if you know how to use it.

Can't you let people have their opinion
*facepalm*
Anyway, I think you might be able to get a clip from Detonation Films, then break it down into frames (WMM can do that), and layer it onto the shot.

Thanks everyone. I have all I need.
