I thought it would be an interesting thread to see what films have been filmed near to where you live. I'll start.
I live in Edinburgh so the first film which springs to mind is Trainspotting which was filmed here. Also I saw some of the film Hallam Foe filmed near here which I haven't yet seen.
So what films were filmed near you?
There were some Cincinnati scenes in Rainman. I remember an adaptation of the children's novel Freak the Mighty was filmed here also. I don't think anything major has been filmed within 30 miles of me though.
deliverance was pretty close.

in Independence Day Houston is taken out with a nuke. 
I'm in diving distance with Manhattan and Brooklyn, so that could include a lot of stuff.
Dante's Peak
The town it was filmed in is about an hour away, and the lake where the Grandma lives is where we go fishing a lot. My friend's aunt actually lives in the very house.
Interesting fact: There were no leaches in Mirror Lake until Dante's Peak was filmed. The film-makers imported sand witch contained leech eggs.
I wish there was a film made near me.

If any films were filmed in Orange County, the South Bay, or Los Angeles, that would be the closest.
American Graffiti
Filmed in Marin Country, primarily in a town about twenty miles away from me.
My town had a big film studio in it back in the 20s and 30s. Also, I think they filmed some Monty Python around these parts..
None. The nearest place anything cool was filmed is in London.

They were filming outside a bank in town once but i'm not sure what film that was for.
I think Inside I'm Dancing was filmed near me...
Incidentaly,the brickfilmer Smalltime makes his films down the road from me.
Hmm, I think that would be 'A Bridge too Far'. Other than that I don't know, they don't make that many films in the Netherlands.
A film called (in norwegian) "Mannen som elsket yngve"(in english: The man who loved Yngve) was filmed close to where I live, and thats the only film I get in mind.

The closest film are all the films with ''Amsterdam'' in it. And the closest game is ''Brothers In Arms: Hells Highway'' (Eindhoven).
I can only name one at the top of my head. Scarface. Miami, Florida I believe.
Boy Eats Girl. I've heard one scene was filmed in my friend's garden.
The Commitments was filmed in Dublin. One scene was actually filmed in the building where my Dad works.
The prison scenes in the original Italian Job were filmed in Kilmainham Jail in Dublin.
It's not that close, but the beach scene in Saving Private Ryan was filmed on a beach in Wexford, which is south of Dublin.
