Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Thin Red Line

I watched this for the second time and I have to say I was pretty stunned, especially since I remember having mixed feelings about it. Aside from being visually remarkable, it's philosophical in a way war films rarely are.

One of the quotes that most impressed me:
Are you righteous? Kind? Does your confidence lie in this? Are you loved by all? Know that I was, too. Do you imagine your suffering will be any less because you loved goodness? Truth?

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I haven't watched movies for the last month or so but that all changed this week.  I started by showing Let The Right One In to a friend.  Every time I see this I like it a little more, even though the DVD subtitles are really inferior to the Theatrical subtitles.  It takes everything that is interesting and though provoking about vampires and lifts it out of the Gothic angst and splatter films creating a very touching story about two lonely 12 year olds.

Then I watched Requiem for a Dream, don't know why but I was just craving to watch it again.  Then yesterday I watched two documentaries, Burden of Dreams and Salesmen.  Burden of Dreams was a great incite into Werner Herzog, it probably was not the best thing to watch before seeing Fitzcarraldo, but it did make me move it to the top of my Netflix queue.

Have you seen Aguirre, the Wrath of God yet? I watched it again recently; pretty stunning. It's almost like Apocalypse Now, but manages to be extremely effective without the visual bombast of the former, something which I really admire in a way.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I watched Indiana Jones and the Final Crusade, then The Truman Show. Both were good films for different reasons. Peter Weir was totally ahead of his time...   and Spielberg is a genius.

Its the LAST Crusade.

Sorry, I get annoyed by things like that. I liked both of those movies.

Cape Fear (1991)

Robert De Niro is really menacing in this. But it's also kind of funny to hear him with that Southern accent.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Superbad

mini/lol Pretty amazing.

I haven't seen many Werner Herzog films (I've seen Stroszek and The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser which probably weren't the best introduction)  How much I like Fitzcarraldo will probibly have a lot to do with how quickly I see Aguirre.  But I really have missed watching films, making the directory was a real setback in my movie watching.

Dracula

Was pretty good.

Gary Oldman was really weird looking in this film mini/lol (commissioner gordon from TDK)  he was totally     unrecognizable.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Last month I got the three Terminator movies for my birthday, I finally watched "Rise of the Machines" about a week ago, here's my verdicts on  the films:

Terminator
I'd already seen terminator 2 so this was helpful to fill the gaps that I didn't understand. It's a very good film but is starting to look very dated now especially the hilarious damaged Arnie Model with the light pink skin, It is still a classic and enjoyable to watch despite that though. My favourite moments were the part at the night club and the police station. I liked the robot skeleton but it wasn't very smooth animation compared to what we get nowadays. I really liked the score for the film, it fitted the era perfectly and sounded awesome. I also like the score because it's doesn't try to be an epic orchestral score but still helps the moods of scenes perfectly. The theme should be more well known as it is great.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day
One of the only sequels that is better than the original, I preferred the story in this film as I felt it wasn't just John and Sarah running away from the terminator throught out the film. My favourite parts of this film were the Arcade scene, the Hospital, Cyber Dyne building and the ending part with the factory. The score in this film was more epic and orchestral than the previous and I missed that. Definately watch this if you only watch one of them.

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
People had already told me that this wasn't very good and the fact that it is by a different director which has ruined a series before lowered my expectations. I started watching this and something that got my attention was the fact that judgement day hadn't happened and that John was a paranoid hobo. Throughout the film I was waiting for it to be bad and it never happened. I really enjoyed the film not as much as the others but I still enjoyed it. Arnie's performance in this wasn't as good as T1 or T2 but it wasn't too bad. I liked the ending and seeing the war start.

I've noticed some recurring themes throught out the trilogy:

Spoiler (click to read)
  • The Terminator always chases the protagonists in a truck or lorry of some kind

  • Arnie always get his clothes in a somewhat humorous way

  • He does say "I'll be back" in the other films just suttely

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Nice, I bought There Will Be Blood and 300  today for £14. Both are 2-disc, I really like the there will be blood case as it is made of cardboard and the middle slides out and the discs slip into sections with the "Oil" speech from near the beginning on them. It looks really cool, I might take some pictures if anyone is interested.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

A lot of people complained about the cardboard case, which I don't understand; it's really awesome. Be sure to check out the extras.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

It's also made of 80% recycled paper. I definately will watch them.

I couldn't find my camera so a basic explanation from the internet

The Internet wrote:

a thin cardboard slipcover holds a slim tray which resembles an old leather book. Pockets on two of the six sides hold the discs, which maintain the drab vintage color palette, while another holds three sizable paragraphs of speech from Oil! that lay the basis for the film's first dialogue.

Please don't say Joel Schumacher directed that.
