I've deleted the new thread.  I think you should be able to add the original thread from the user CP now.  If people will just check "No" at the end of the form for films that already have threads, this won't be a problem.

It's working now, thanks a lot.

Re: The BiM Film Directory is now open!

Yay. Good to know the directory's up and running. Thanks for all the work that has been done on it.

Yeah gonna upload a film soon.

Brickfilming was made to make kids to think that LEGO could move by itself.

I thought points 1), 2), and 5) had been resolved, apparently not.  In theory, the date you submitted the film to the directory is never supposed to be visible, it is only there for the purpose of determining the list order of the films, obviously there are a few errors to be worked out in that regard.  I agree the on point 3), we'll probably integrate the controls into some other pages eventually.  Regrading point 4), this won't be a problem if we put a link to the controls on these pages, the idea, though, that everything can be edited from the control panel, not from the film pages themselves.  Regarding 6), we do plan to make pages fully editable eventually but that wasn't something that was feasible to have ready in time for launch.

Regarding tying the film description to the first post: I would consider that undesirable.  Sometimes I have found myself wanting to include notes in the first post of the thread that I would not want in the film description, and it'd get annoying to have to revert it every time I make a change to the page description.

Thanks for the response. It's good to see that you're still actively working on making it even more awesome. Good to see indeed.

Awesomeness. This makes the BF directory look like a mud hut. Makes me want to finish some of my web coding projects...

I really have only one annoyance other than the glitches already mentioned: You can't easily open a film in a new tab. mini/confused

The directory is looking nice. It's a little sluggish to load, but it's looking promising. Nice job!

Re: The BiM Film Directory is now open!

I am making a TON of fixes right now so I have been clearing out the temporary caches QUITE a bit, but when i am not busy making changes any place that has been visited before should load very quickly.

Re: The BiM Film Directory is now open!

There is one thing I can suggest that hasn't been said yet.
On the old BF.com directory, my favourite feature was the Search by Rating, Genre, etc. It's very useful for finding a particular type of film, and in my opinion, would be a good addition to the already wonderful directory.

Better search options are one of the things we're working on.  (And by we, I mean Sloth!)

The film page has been updated to address some issues, the controls panel has replaced the 'Add Your Film' button now.  Should make it easier to navigate.

Re: The BiM Film Directory is now open!

I have uploaded a new version of the films index, I reworked the AJAX quite a bit and some Javascript issues with IE (that no one seemed to notice) should be fixed. I have also added the ability to view all films or just the staff favorites in addition to the regular browsing option.

1. Some slight errors in the dates
This occures with some films, like (at the moment) Stop and Motion by Helico, and Cashman by Philip Heinrich. Oddly enough, when you go to the film page the date is shown correctly. Not sure what happened there, but it is kind of annoying.

I will try to fix this next

2. Resorting doesn't stick very well
So whenever I change the sort thingie from 'pretty detailed' to 'list' (or whatever you want to name it), the thing doesn't stick. By that I mean that when I sort the thing as a list, as soon as I go to (for example) a film page or any other page, the sorting system automatically goes back to 'detailed'. This isn't terribly annoying, but it's a slight drawback as people who prefer lists over the detailed things will have to click that button in the top right corner every single time. Every. Single. Time.

This is fixed, when you hit back it will take you back to the same page, in the same style you were view it in.

BertL wrote:

3. No control panel ;_;
There's no control panel wherever you go in the Film directory. Again, this is slightly annoying especially when you want to go to your control panel after you've gone to a film page. Nothing big, but still.

Fixed

6. Limited editing abilities
Ok so I wanted to edit the film page for Harbinger because I made a couple of mistakes on it. First problem was "Lord\_of\_the\_LEGO" which has lots of backslashes (probably a PHP problem or something). Second problem was mistagging Rolz's involvement in the film as "Cameo appearance", I want that to say just "Cameo". I found out that I couldn't fix the first problem as it just reverted back to the backslash riddled name. Also, I couldn't fix the second problem because the cast/crew thing seems unfixable. mini/sad

I hope to get this fixed very soon, editing links and cast names will be possible

BertL wrote:

Also, a question. When you edit the film page, will your forum thread thingie be edited as well? That would be quite handy, I think.

Currently it does not edit the film page, an oversight on my part, I will fix this.

I think I have spotted a mistake. Unless i'm just looking at this wrong: The Newest films are on page 1 but when new films are added they will go onto page 1 and the old page 1 films will become page 2 and page 2 will become page 3 and so on. This means if I was to give someone a link to page 2, it might not be the same films when they look at it. to fix this it new films will have to go onto the highest numbered page and be descending. If it's any consolation brickfilms.com made the same mistake and they still haven't finished fixing it, they just put the oldest films on the first page of the directory.

This is not a bug, you could call it a 'design flaw', addressing this will take a bit of creative thinking but it is not a major priority.

This is now fixed, if you right click on a films title you can open it in a new tab

This is in the works, not quite as easy as I would like, but it is on the agenda

Re: The BiM Film Directory is now open!

Thanks SlothPaladin And Smeagol! mini/bigsmile I just tested the directory by submitting my film. It's awesome!

Re: The BiM Film Directory is now open!

question:if we get an error at the end of the submiting process do we need to submit it again or did the submition go through?

Re: The BiM Film Directory is now open!

If you go to manage films (available from the controls menu) you should see a list of all your films, if it is not in that list it was not submitted.  If you do get an error can you please copy it and ether post it or send me a PM

Re: The BiM Film Directory is now open!

A few random notes I thought I should mention:

Please don't upload .BMP files for thumbnails, it won't work.

Staff ratings only include "music" if there is an original score composed for the film.

Re: The BiM Film Directory is now open!

fixed a bug where the first page would have 15 films, page two would have 30, page 3 45 and so on.  Now always shows 15 films per page.
