Re: BiM 2009: STAR [CLOSED]

How does staff status affect being able to win prizes?

Re: BiM 2009: STAR [CLOSED]

As far as I'm concerned, anybody who's not judging can enter, except me and ManVan.  Nobody else really has a conflict of interests here.  I'll select the judging panel after the contest is over from people who didn't enter.

Are you allowed to use music that you payed for from iTunes?? mini/confused
Also, I don't really understand. What kind of video are we supposed to make? A sci-fi film?
EDIT: And how do you send a link for you to download? mini/confused

Re: BiM 2009: STAR [CLOSED]

First off: thanks, Sméagol, for organizing and starting this. That looks really interesting, and I would love to enter. Unfortunately, I probably won't. I'll concentrate on my actual project which is time-consuming enough. I don't think I can come up with something until the deadline.
Anyways, I wish everyone good luck and I am eager to see some interesting films at the end.

No, buying a song from iTunes doesn't qualify as obtaining the rights to use it.  If you want music you'll probably need to make it yourself, find someone to compose music for you, or find some royalty-free stock music.

The answers to the rest of these questions can be found here.  Making a Sci-fi film is acceptable but not the only way to use the theme.

Re: BiM 2009: STAR [CLOSED]

Yeah.......I read that, I just don't really get it. Does it have to be about outer space?

Re: BiM 2009: STAR [CLOSED]

No, it doesn't.  As explained, "space" can be taken to mean outer space or any king of spatial relationship, it's open to free interpretation.  And you only have to include one of the three (space, time, and reality) as an element in your film.  They all go together though so hopefully films will encompass a broader spectrum of the theme than just a time-travel movie or something.

Re: BiM 2009: STAR [CLOSED]

So, time. Does that mean you can make a video about clocks? (Okay, obviously not, but do you see what I'm getting at?) mini/confused

Re: BiM 2009: STAR [CLOSED]

Sure, a film centered around the idea of time, playing off of it, would be fine.  And if you're playing with perception of time, you're likely to be playing with reality as well.  So the themes tend to overlap.

Re: BiM 2009: STAR [CLOSED]

Okay. I'm probably sounding annoying, this topic just seems really complicated. mini/blankexpression
So.....what exactly do you mean by "playing off of it"?

Re: BiM 2009: STAR [CLOSED]

Centered around it.  A film about a clock tower may have very little to do with time, but a film about a man running late for work would certainly require perception of time to be an important element.

Re: BiM 2009: STAR [CLOSED]

Really? So that kind of entry would make sense? mini/smile

Re: BiM 2009: STAR [CLOSED]

Sure, though it wasn't a suggestion or anything.  Just be creative, stuff like The Twilight Zone might be good inspiration.  Brickfilms had a contest a few years back called A Peculiar Event ("APE"), the theme here is similar but open to broader interpretation.

Re: BiM 2009: STAR [CLOSED]

does the entry HAVE to be downloadable? I can't do downloadable.

Re: BiM 2009: STAR [CLOSED]

Yes, it has to be downloadable.  Why can't you upload a video to a file hosting website so it is downloadable?  It's a pretty simple process, and we're accepting several formats.

Re: BiM 2009: STAR [CLOSED]

It's downloadable on Vimeo/YouTube right?

Entries may not be made public before the deadline, so YouTube, Vimeo, and other such video websites will not be a good place to upload your film. We recommend uploading your film via a .zip archive to either your own hosting or a file hosting site such as MediaFire.

Sorry, but I'm not going to continue to answer questions that have already been addressed in the first post.

Re: BiM 2009: STAR [CLOSED]

What would be good? (Besides MediaFire which I don't have)

Re: BiM 2009: STAR [CLOSED]

MediaFire is free.

Here are some other free options.
