Topic: What’s a good intermediate stop motion camera?

Hi! I’ve been doing brickfilms for several years now and I’m thinking about a camera upgrade. I was previously using this camera (https://www.amazon.com/Sony-DSCW830-Dig … B00HNJWUBI), but because most of the focus options were auto, causing a lot of blurriness and flicker, I switched to using an iPhone as a remote camera connected to an iPad. I noticed this camera pack (https://www.amazon.com/Stopmotion-Explo … amp;sr=8-2), which seems to take high quality pictures and has an acceptable price, but I was wondering if anyone has a better recommendation. I’m looking for good quality and manual control but something that’s not too complicated or spendy, more of an intermediate stop motion camera.

I have personally used the Stopmotion Explosion kit and it is a very efficient and very easy to use interface with a more than suitable webcam. If you’re willing to spend a little more, the Logitech C920 is widely considered the best brickfilming webcam there is, and takes gorgeous photos.

Re: What’s a good intermediate stop motion camera?

Thanks! I’ll check it out!

Re: What’s a good intermediate stop motion camera?

I thought about that kit, but I got the logitech c920 for christmas. I LOVE it. All of my stop motions are shot on the c920 for now. You can get REALLY amazing pictures with it. This is a little test I did and it looks really nice. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Y5_mBL … NuREx/view If you use it right, the logitech c920 can look like it is some other high-end camera.
(make sure to set the quality to 1080p in the video)

That looks really good! mini/eek I was possibly looking for a camera that has depth of focus as well, and it seems like it has that too! I’m definetely seriously considering the Logitech C920. By the way, great job on SCRAP, 2x4!

Thanks! If you want good depth of field/a blurry background, lighting will help a lot.
And I didn't make SCRAP, 2x4 Productions did, I'm 2x4 studios.

Oh and the logtiech c920 is normally around 70-80 dollars, but cuz of corona the price went up.

Re: What’s a good intermediate stop motion camera?

I purchased the Logitech C920 HD Pro webcam off the Logitech website (finally) after it being out of stock. I hope to use it for my next animation... it should arrive in a week or two.

Nice! And did you know that Mighty Wanderer uses the c920 for his vids? (at least I think you still uses one)
Also just fyi, you cant change the aperture (depth of field, blurry background) on the c920 so your kinda stuck with one setting.

Good choice! Also, surprisingly good price. c920s skyrocketed in price thanks to covid. Glad to see they're going back down.

This is the link to the real Logitech C920 HD Pro Webcam: https://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/ … 20?crid=34
But DON'T buy this one, its a fake copy: https://www.amazon.com/Webcam-Widescree … amp;sr=1-5

The c920 is out of stock on amazon so you might have to order it on Logitech's website. Hope that helps!

EDIT: I just saw that the webcam you screenshotted has 'fixed focus' that means you wouldn't be able to adjust the focus.

Re: What’s a good intermediate stop motion camera?

I bought straight from the Logitech website (HERE) because the Amazon option was over $100, but I had to wait for a while because they were back-ordered, and it looks like they’re back-ordered again. So you can’t change the depth of field? I watched some stop motion test videos using it and I thought it could. I noticed that 2x4 built a camera rig on his production log based off of Mighty Wanderer’s and I was wondering how you build it, and what it can do. The package’s estimated arrival was today... hopefully it comes!

So, my rig can move up and down with the wheel in the back, you just turn it.

It can swivel 360 degrees around with the turn table thing in the center.

It is built on a large truck base so it can roll.

The weight on the top is to keep it from tipping over.

Here are some pictures if you haven't seen them already. (I know you have Juice box)

Its awesome for camera movements.

Mighty Wanderer made a topic for it, it also has a link to a vid he made about it. https://bricksinmotion.com/forums/topic … amera-rig/
I hope to make a video showing how mine works soon!
