Re: Brickfilm Christmas Special Production Thread

PROJECT UPDATE!

I have a few submissions now, and this thing is really starting to take shape! I have a basic story outline for the framing device story, and I'll be writing the script as the rest of the story submissions come in over the next week or so, and I'll be posting the script here when it's ready. Meanwhile I'm focusing on designing the set for the airport terminal lobby where the scenes will take place. I've just made some large bricklink orders from two stores to get the parts for everyone's figures. I had to go with 2nd options on a few of the items, as some of them were quite expensive and/or would require buying from too many different sellers. Browsing through what else the sellers had, I even found a bunch more seats to fill out the set (there will now be 25 of each color for a total of 100!) and a star for the tree, as well as various plane parts for outside the window. Once I receive the shipments I'll be sure to post a group picture here, as well as snapshots of the set build.

I know that many of you are close to completing your stories and commercials, and for some it might feel like a long way to the finish, but I want to offer all of us a word of encouragement for what is shaping up to be something really unique. I have a feeling this is going to be pretty special, based on what I've seen so far, and also what I haven't seen, but know about what each one of us is working on. Happy brickfilming to all,  and to all a good night!

Christmas Special (Behind the Scenes) by SteampunkDoc, on Flickr

Working on the final scene. Also, have a title now.
Not quite a page of dialog left, but that will have to wait until tomorrow.
Which, now that I look at the time, is in about fifteen minutes. Yikes!
But hey, who really needs that sleep thing?

Re: Brickfilm Christmas Special Production Thread

Looks great!

I updated my signature to be a link to the dropbox upload, so nobody has to dig through the posts to find it.

Here's a snapshot of the set build plans in progress. I'm trying to get my pieces sorted and organized, they've gotten pretty mixed up in this year of brickfilming, so once that is sorted and once I make it out to Target for one more tan baseplate, I'll start the actual build. The tree is just a placeholder, I'm hoping to figure out some sort of brickbuilt tree, depending on what pieces I have.

Re: Brickfilm Christmas Special Production Thread

Looks great thistof! I'm impressed by the fact that you kept in mind only what the camera will see when doing this in LDD, even though it's a simple thing to remember I don't think I would've done it that way! mini/smile

Yea that looks great! I love the planes. It is obvious that you have put a lot of work into this. The red and pink look a little odd though.... But maybe thats just me. Overall though it looks great!

Re: Brickfilm Christmas Special Production Thread

Thanks, a lot of the "only what the camera sees" is in fact inspired by not building with parts that I know I don't have, so then it becomes a matter of "where can I position this plane that I don't have enough pieces to complete?" The far plane will probably be less constructed than it is here, since the large plane nose was added later when I happened upon it in a bricklink shop when ordering the figure parts. The idea behind the pink area is that it's a terminal for Belle Air, inspired by the old Belleville line, which is why it doesn't match the more public common area. I wanted to imply that there are different airlines for the different worlds of Lego. There will be a logo on the wall so that the colors mark it off as a branded area for that airline. It will also be more dimly lit, as will one of the shops on the left, which will be dark and gated up to give a feeling of the place being deserted due to the lateness of the night. I also tried mixing up the chair colors rather than clumping them by color, but it felt much busier that way, and since I wanted to create a feeling of emptiness, I felt the rows of like colors kept the visual energy low.

Re: Brickfilm Christmas Special Production Thread

Cool. I just thought that it might be good to let you know (and maybe other's do the same thing?) that my story is most likely going to be one of the shorter ones if that helps with figuring out the timings and everything. It may be useful if the others who are doing stories give an idea soon of how long their story is likely to be? Just a thought mini/smile

Re: Brickfilm Christmas Special Production Thread

Two stories in and five commercials!
Footage wise, that comes out to 6:45, almost 1/4 of the half hour goal!
We're on a roll!
I know there are a few more that are very close, and several others not far behind.
Thanks to everyone and keep up the great work!

Finishing the final shot now. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/StevieCollins/smiles/camerathing.gif

Raw footage clocks in at around three minutes, but once dialog is added and synced up, that'll expand.

Re: Brickfilm Christmas Special Production Thread

Thistof, I was wondering if there is going to be any sort of promotion video/teaser for the 1/2 special that we will be able to post to our individual channels to help promote the whole video when it comes out.  I am also wondering when the whole video will be posted.  I am assuming pretty close to Christmas, but I would like to know so I can plan out my brickfilming schedule for my channel!

Thanks so much for doing all of this!

Re: Brickfilm Christmas Special Production Thread

Great questions!
I would like to do a promo teaser, hopefully once I receive all of the story segments this weekend.
As for release date, my goal is Dec 17th at 8PM EST
Wammy's sister has created an official logo for the show, which I'd also like to incorporate in a countdown to release poster type thing that people can post on their various social media, etc.
I'll post more info on all of this as I have it prepared.

Meanwhile, I've received 2/3 Bricklink orders. I'll post pics of the figures once I receive the final shipment and have the figures built. I'll start building the set tomorrow and I hope to have all building and script complete by the end of the week, in order to start animating those scenes next Monday.

Re: Brickfilm Christmas Special Production Thread

Pritchard Studios has uploaded his story video, that brings us to 3 stories. Remember, this weekend is the deadline for the story segments since I need to have those finalized as I'll be starting the animation of the present day segments. The set is about 1/5 built, and I'll post pictures as I make progress as well as once I have all of the minifigs assembled (I have half of them ready)

Re: Brickfilm Christmas Special Production Thread

Just got the editing for my short commercial, and then it's done. I tried to stick as close as I could to the 30 second time limit for the commercials, but it might be closer to 40. Is this a problem? I don't really want to cut anything from it, as I don't think the timing would work as well.

Re: Brickfilm Christmas Special Production Thread

I think it should be fine, thanks and looking forward to watching!

Re: Brickfilm Christmas Special Production Thread

One more commercial uploaded today! That brings us to 6 commercials and 3 stories uploaded.

STORY DEADLINE for stories is this weekend! So be sure to finish and upload by Sunday, and since I realistically won't get a chance to work on this on Monday, sneaking it in sometime Monday will also work. Be sure to include your FIGURE DESIGN for those of you who have not. At this point you're at the mercy of what I happen to have in my personal collection, so keep it simple. Also include your list of credits including voices, animation, music, script, sounds, etc. and optional is a still image from your story to be shown behind your credits at the end of the show. If you don't care then I'll select the still for you.

COMMERCIALS have been coming in, and they're looking great! Be sure to include your list of credits including voices, animation, music, script, sounds, etc. and optional is a still image from your story to be shown behind your credits at the end of the show. If you don't care then I'll select the still for you.

The set is under construction. I have a little more completed since I posted this frame on Discord earlier today, but this is a start.

Re: Brickfilm Christmas Special Production Thread

Looking really good. Is that an ATM? Because that's a great touch. And it looks like you had no problem getting sigfig together. Awesome!

I'll get you my credits frame here pretty quick. Don't worry. mini/wink

Re: Brickfilm Christmas Special Production Thread

Thanks! Yeah, it's the atm from this set https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/ca … ice%5D#T=I which I have just discovered is a remake of https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/ca … ice%5D#T=I

I did my best with the figures. As you can see Arginnon's hair is still in the mail, and your face is a Marty McFly, but close enough.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

As I do not have any one official "sigfig", this will function as my character. The hair is from the LEGO Ninjago Movie Master Falls 70608 set. If you do not have the hair piece, any generic brown hair will function.

In other news, I should make the weekend deadline if I work efficiently. I appreciate your patience, Thistoff.
