Dave & Ken Brickson: Episode #3

YouTube

Ken is finally starting to get the hang of his job at Best Buy and he is feeling really good about himself. However, Brian Dowell has hired a new person named Derek Schlotsky to work in the Geek Squad. Due to his prior experience (and three awards) in the realm of computer repair, Ken fears that Derek’s accomplishments will overpower his own and and tries to discredit him.

Guest starring real-life co-workers Drake Szczepinski and Alan Peregrino

Special thanks once again to Skinny Zach Films for providing some of the voices in this episode

Feedback welcome and encouraged.

Re: Dave & Ken Brickson: Episode #3

I always meant to comment, and it was only because August is my worst month, and I wanted to sit and enjoy this brickfilm instead of try to watch it without concentrating.  But now I've seen it and can do that.

First of all, it goes without saying that I love all your episodic brickfilms, and this is no exception.  I like that there are moral lessons and well-written storyline and plot.  And I just love the boss' tics, like his laughter and noises he makes as he walks.

I love the humor in Dave & Ken, which is drier than that in "Joe Brickmond", but equally funny.  But you've come a long way, especially the good job with the voice acting and taking on almost the entire cast yourself.

Favorite moment: Ken singing (and dancing to) Michael Jackson's "Bad"

Favorite line: a draw between:
Funny name, serious...
and
You're full of Schmutz (sp?)  I think you just don't want to check!

I had togo back and listen more closely to the background "intercom conversation", Rush Hour 4 BLu-Ray collection, and other intercom communications.

Spoiler (click to read)

And the duck!  Kind of like a tell-tale heart thing going on.

Only complaint is that the music and background intercom dialogue could be a bit lower.

And of course, I'm ready to see more!  Thanks!

I really appreciate that. For a while, I thought it was because I was under-hyping the episode that it didn't get much notice when I first posted it (because I was busy finishing up a music album for my CollegeKidz42 project)

Once again, that means a lot coming from you.

Everything Brian (the boss) does in the show is pretty much based exactly on one of my four bosses at my job. Everything from "Uh, yupper?" to the laugh to the "quacks" he makes as he walks are things that he does in real life. There's a lot more he does that I will introduce in future episodes.

A majority of the humor in Joe Brickmond was written by my sister Amanda. This series shows that we have different senses of humor, but it's still similar enough for people to know that the two shows are connected.

My two personal favorite moments: "Awww! Televisions?!" and "Uh-oh. The intercom."

I had togo back and listen more closely to the background "intercom conversation", Rush Hour 4 BLu-Ray collection, and other intercom communications.

It was actually the "Rush R40" Blu-Ray (a concert movie celebrating Rush's 40th anniversary tour). The joke might go over most people's heads, but a lot of longtime viewers know that Rush is one of my favorite bands.

I agree. For some reason, the background sounds always end up being louder when I render the final video than when I have them in preview.

And of course, I'm ready to see more!  Thanks!

I have a fourth script in the works at the moment that I plan to work on more once I finish up with my album promotion. I can't wait to have it out.

I was wondering if you worked at a Best Buy type place and how much of the story is drawn from real life!

And I have a rare Rush CD called Profiled, whcih contains open-ended interviews with Getty Lee and the band.  Now you can find it on eBay but I got it before there was a World wide Web and such commerce sites.

I actually work at a lumber store. The reason I went with Best Buy for the show is because I thought that people could relate to electronics and appliances more than lumber.

The things that have happened in the show are only about 25% exaggerated from real life events. I have taken almost no creative liberties so far and I can probably go that way for a while.

It's always good to be perceptive and remember/jot down anything interesting that you experience or witness.  It's called "The Idea Net".  My problem is not writing things down, thinking I'll remember... and then I don't.
