At first people may complain about the flicker and a perception of choppy animation. But I think this is purely awesome. Here is why:
1) The subdued lighting not only sets the mood, but provided me with the feel that I'm watching real space footage. I've watched a large share of lunar video from 1969 and early 1970s, and it captured that tone.
2) creative use of a carrot element
3) just the video of the astronauts walking built up suspense, and the surprise last few seconds came without warning. Perfect use of pacing throughout in my opinion.
4) Excellent use of sound.
The Gravity is very light on Pluto, so i just explained away that their boots and suits are heavy so they have the 1G experience, otherwise the astronauts' muscles will weaken. and deteriorate.
I loved it.
