Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

That's good, HOO. Very accurate.

Here's a hospital room set possibly for BRAWL. Disclaimer: I still need to put in a few seats, probably a desk for the doctor, some more instruments. Problem is seems like I'm stuck with a strict black, white, and grey color palette. Not sure what other colors to use though for the set. I have lots of brown, tan, dark green, and dark red, but not much of anything else. And I only have a light grey, a brown, a tan, and a green baseplate, so the fact that I don't have anything good baseplate colors further restricts my color selection.

Not bad so far.   I remember building hospitals from lego in my childhood.  The Legoland idea book (set #6000) had plans for one.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I just made an doctor's office. Here's a picture with most of the stuff. I also put some pictures on the wall, to break up the bland colors.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Jasper, maybe use dark green at the bottom instead of dark gray and tan on the top instead of light grey, or some such combination; hospitals often have colors, just muted ones, and it will make the set feel less greyscale. Nice doctors office, legoguy.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I've added a desk with computer monitor, some more drawers, and a couch to the room. I even put a bunch of instruments on the wall behind the bed. I'll try some tan and green and see how it looks, but I don't see it going well with the grey and white bricks.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

My problem is with building sets is that I can't find any of the same colored bricks to build a wall... It always ends up being multiple colors... mini/confused

So, here's a little something I've been working on the past few days. It's main purpose is for use as a stopmotion puppet in some animation tests, while it's secondary purpose is to more or less just look kinda cool... mini/wink

It's not jut your problem mini/tongue but most of us suffer too!
I would use some color correction techniques (better say recoloring) next time I have to build a large scene. It should work well.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Go to bricklink.com and buy a lot of basic bricks in your desired color.

also, some homes will have a room with a waist-level moulding, and have a darker color  below it, and a light color, either white or a complimentary (opposite on the color wheel) color.  If you can get by with two colors, you can do this.

Wallpaper is another way, if you can build the walls sideways, since wallpaper is usually vertical for aesthetics.  Make two-colored wallpaper, or even put a row of plates in between every stripe or couple of stripes to make a thin-thick stripe pattern

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I built this living room for a new project I'm working on, I think it looks rather nice. What do you guys think? Feedback and/or criticism is appreciated mini/smile

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Wow, that's awesome! I love all the little details. Did you buy all those bricks in bulk? Or are they just the product of years of collecting? In any case, good work.

The bricks are a product of years of collecting, though I bought a lot of the props just for this project, I'm glad you like it!

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I like it!
Wallpaper is a rarity in brickfilms, and you seem to have done a good job with it.
I like the decor, you can tell so much about the occupants from the decorations strewn about, which is exactly what you would want!

Also, props for using the wheelchair. We don't often show people with disabilities in brickfilms, and it's a nice bit of realism.
I'm not a big fan of the fleshie head being mixed in with all the yellow skin tones, but that's just a personal pet peeve of mine, and it's sometimes hard to have enough head to go around without doing that.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Thanks for the nice comments! Can't wait to show this project to you guys once it's done mini/smile

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

That's one of the most amazing sets I've seen in a while.  Really top-notch work there.  The lighting is quite nice as well.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Thanks!

Ooo, very Sci-Fi. I'd steal the idea but I don't have either of those pieces. mini/tongue
