I think what Mr Vertigo meant to say is that the concept has some similarities. Just think about it - each emoji represents a different emotion. So, their personality will be their emotion. If you replace Riley with a phone, then it is very similar. It's not a blatant rip-off, but it has a lot of similarities. I don't think that they even had the thought capacity to blatantly rip off a much superior movie, though. Both Angry Birds and The Emoji movies, are just two examples of Hollywood saying "Hey, people recognize that thing, let's make a movie about it." It'll only be a matter of time when they make a movie about a famous internet meme.
