Topic: Obama Makes A Statement

Here's some edgy political satire for those with a taste for it. It's my first real brick film after a lot of experimenting. I just used an iPhone and iMovie, along with various apps which supplied the FX. I welcome all comments.

Warning: strong violence

(Because of a temporary glitch, I could not post this in the Releases forum where it belongs. It will be moved there asap.)

Re: Obama Makes A Statement

Oh, right, I see what you mean now. I was going to say that you already posted this film in the past, but your film was only on the films list and not on the releases forum. For future reference, be sure to tick the box that says "post on releases forum & films list". You must have ticked the box that said "only submit on films list" which means that no one can post any feedback and are less likely to see the film.

No. As he said, there was a glitch.

Due to limitations of the current website, it seems I can't properly link this to the original directory listing, but if you'd like to rate the film and whatnot, the link is here.

It's good that I can see the listing NOW, with the violence warning.  Actually, I think the blood stock effect is one of the worst ways to make a brickfilm look bad.  I'd try something else.  The interacting with the nuclear blast, however, was well-executed.

Re: Obama Makes A Statement

This is arguably my favorite brickfilm of 2016. Not being a huge fan of "political correctness" myself, and as a U.S. citizen disgruntled by our leadership, a number of the seemingly off-colour jokes struck my fancy. I think it is fascinating when political ideologies enter the brick film world (see "Ferguson Country, USA" by WoodrowVillage). And while I may not always agree with every part of such a film, I find the brutal honest of such brickfilms equally intriguing.

In summary: Good show.

If I Were A Minifig,

Thanks for the review! It was my intention to do something that centered on a more pointed storyline that targets our social and political realities. But I knew it had to be entertaining, too, on a variety of levels. So I wrote a screenplay that employed a variety of types of humor: off-color jokes, dry and cynical wit, intelligent mockery, silly voices, subtle word-choice, absurd and extreme scenarios, etc. Glad to hear that I largely succeeded!

Re: Obama Makes A Statement

I actually thought the humor was funny and varied, but there were such missed opportunities for some pay-off humor.  For instance, when the President had trouble identifying the terrorists as terrorists, he could have gone on and said, "well they didn't show any of the warning signs of terrorists: they didn't have don't tread on me flags, they weren't criticizing Plannend Parenthood, they didn't carry pocket Constitutions", etc.  You know, the things that AREN'T warning signs that, in real life, the president would consider a bigger threat.  But as a maker of brickfilms that discuss topical issues, it's nice to see more such films.

Holdingourown,

I get the punchline you're suggesting, but I didn't want to make jokes that were so blatantly polemical that they generate merely applause from one side without a sense of fun driving the humor. So in that particular case, I was aiming for a more general amusement that arises from the way politicians (some more than others) try to put a non-offense-giving spin on certain things, like Islamic terrorism.

Re: Obama Makes A Statement

This was great. Loved it all.

I seriously would like you to make more. mini/lol

I see what you mean, claws up, but I think people of both sides can see the irony, in a Jay Leno sense, where he'll make fun o a contradictory trait as an equal-opportunity jabber.  You did well, except for the blood effects.
