I know, I know, this is nothing like the comics, but we're taking a different approach. Just like most film adaptations of comic book material, we're taking the basic concepts and other elements and morphing them into our own story. Just thought I'd get in there before the comments hit.

This is the opening chapter of our brand-new MBU Planet Hulk arc, run by DT98Films and I with help from thebrickranger, Joebor1777, and others. We're really excited, and what we have in store is a pretty huge undertaking.

It's been a very long night, but I've finally got this out (having animated it back in December and sat on it since then). In terms of VFX I'd probably consider this my best work, though the pacing ended up a little weird and the light flicker is as irritating as ever. Anyway, enjoy!

Nice opening chapter - I really liked the lighting inside Hulk's spacecraft - very atmospheric - look forward to the next chapter:)

Thanks! Be sure to follow DT98Films and watch his Guardians of the Galaxy series for the next two chapters in the story, and follow theLEGOBrickz to see She-Hulk's role in this story arc later in the year.

It isn't a little known fact that I could care less for the Marvel films, as, to me, they seem to perfectly exemplify the lackluster stories and un-passionate approach to blockbuster filmmaking that seems to plague Hollywood these days. But, this brickfilm was really entertaining.

It seems to be made with fun first and foremost in mind, and that shows through while watching. It hearkens back to the glory of the comics in their heyday, while still re-inventing things to stay fresh. It takes what, in theory, worked for the MCU, and adapts it in a much better way here. Short stories in a larger series really seem to fit well in a brickfilm presentation - you've certainly proved that.

Unlike the upcoming MCU films, I'm actually really looking forward to the MBU, and will happily await new releases just as intently as a crazed Trekkie wearing full TNG garb at every sci-fi premier at his local theater. mini/bigsmile

Now I wish I hadn't stayed away from your MBU for as long as I have. I look forward to looking through more of it, especially if it'll be to the quality of this entry.

I love Planet Hulk, both the comic arc and the animated DVD special.  Will download and watch later

Thanks mini/smile  I'm a big fan of Planet Hulk too (as you can probably tell) but when DT98Films and I started talking about doing our own Planet Hulk arc, we both knew how difficult doing it exactly would be. There'll be plenty of Sakaarans and references to the battle with the Red King, but we won't actually see much of Sakaar.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy when you watch it later.

Re: Planet Hulk: Origins

First, I have to commend you on your use of the big-fig. It's a very limited mold, with only a few joints, and even fewer facial expressions. (Not that Hulk needs more than 'angry'...) So lunching into a complex story with that as your main character is going to be a challenge, but one I feel you've already begun to conquer.

The VFX are great, and sell the space scenes well. Naturally, the animation was a bit limited, but with this being a dialog-heavy set-up story, there's nothing wrong with that. I'm only vaguely familiar with a few of the major plot points of the comic series, but from what I know, there's a lot of great material coming up soon. So I can't wait to see how ya'll's adaptation continues.

As usual, I'm continually impressed with the consistency and quantity of the MBU films. I was a bit skeptical of the idea early on, but ya'll have certainly proven me wrong. It's grown quite well, and has really taken a nice identity of it's own. Keep up the good work!

Re: Planet Hulk: Origins

So I have to ask. First have been enjoying all the MBU stories and
am thinking all the story lines are going to tie into one big event?
If so and take no offense keep the high quality of the stories up and
give us something we didn't see coming.
Keep up the great work.

Thanks! Bigfigs are incredibly irritating in their lack of poseability, but honestly now I just take it as a challenge mini/lol if i can get my hands on the new Thanos minifigure, I'd love to have a crack at animating him too.

I'm glad you liked the VFX. A lot of it was trial and error, but I think that kind of experimentation helped me come up with a distinctive aesthetic style in the end, one that I'm pretty fond of.

We're actually building towards a few things. We have a timeline that we work from, and the idea is that when the MBU is more complete, you'll be able to look at the main playlist and see a clear sense of flow and progression (obviously it takes time though, and we don't always have enough peoplepower to get every project done).

We don't generally lift stuff straight from the comics. Maybe the odd issue here and there might be adapted (eg Spider-Gwen and our upcoming Avengers Origins: Vision) but with our Planet/World War Hulk arc, we've only taken inspiration from the comics. The final story is definitely our own, and when the main World War Hulk brickfilm rolls around later this year, there will be plenty of things that I can guarantee you won't see coming. The same goes for our Ultron storyline; the finale takes inspiration from a couple of comic story arcs but it's completely our own story in itself, constructed around how the rest of the MBU has progressed.

But it's a good question. I don't really see what the point would be in just adapting any events like Infinity Gauntlet or House of M beat-for-beat would be, but I've seen people try it. For me personally, one of the best things about making fan fiction of comics (which is basically what the MBU is) is taking inspiration from the comics but letting your imagination run wild and seeing what you can bring to the table, not how well you can copy and paste a page of dialogue.

I think it's a marvellous idea to adapt the stories from the comics. You can show us something that hasn't been seen on the silver screen and also, you put a lot more imagination in telling the story. Good job mini/wink

Surely original plotlines are better opportunities to use your imagination? mini/yes

Like I said, I think the storylines in the comics are a good springboard to start from.
