I've done one live action short before and learned from the experience. Any other tips people could give me?Like maintaining good cinematography?
Plan the shots out ahead of time. This doesn't have to be a perfect storyboard (sometimes hard with comedy, if there is a lot of improvisation to the performances) but it is helpful to have a list of what shots/angles you want for each beat in the script. It'll help you prepare so that you're getting the best-composed shots you can for each part of the scene and not shooting the entire scene from a zillion camera angles just so you can create something decent later in the editing room.
Don't shoot with an overly wide aperture...it's popular to do this with dslrs but looks cheap many times. Real movies are typically at an aperture of like f/4-f/6 most of the time.
