The implication later in the series will be that this is a second, later team: Doctor Strange worked with Namor, Hulk, and Silver Surfer in the past, but the team was a disaster, and they parted on bad terms. I'm most familiar with later iterations of the team in the comics, like the most recent post-Fear Itself run, and one of the older iterations that had Hellcat and Valkyrie. This series will also take some inpiration from Fear Itself: The Fearless and Fearless Defenders.

While Namor and Hulk can be good characters, neither of them fitted the story I wanted to tell. The lineup I do have feels more organic and has a more varied skillset and dynamic.
