Just A Scratch (BRAWL 2015)
A man trying to do right ends up in a whole lotta wrong.
Wow, what a film. It's definitely not your usual comedy, it was a lot darker. But that doesn't mean it was bad, I actually enjoyed it (as much as one can enjoy a film with that level of violence ). The plot grabbed me, though, I wanted to know why all this was happening. You handled this very well, the flashbacks were perfect. I think the voice for the rough guy with the black hair was a bit off, because he didn't sound quite rough enough. Also, the credits music seemed a bit corny and didn't really match, but neither of those were big deals. Keep up the good work!
Wow, so weird to see you making a serious film, and a violent one at that! Regardless, the pacing was pretty good, the animation was decent, and the cinematography was neat. Very cool story and flashbacks. Pretty good film you've made!
Thanks for the feedback, you guys! As you might be able to guess, this isn't my usual forte, so I'm glad that people liked it a bit!
This was my first film made with a DSLR, so I was really trying to push in terns of what I could accomplish with dark locations and lighting, so I do admit that a couple of shots may have been to much on the dark side. And yeah, the credits were a little bit corny. Kinda weird ending this super serious film with a clip of a barbarian hitting a carrot, no?
I finally got to watch this by myself. One thing that definitely stuck out was the lighting, I wish it had been brighter, but you already mentioned that. The other thing you may want to do in the future is re-approach the volume of speech in your films. It wasn't an issue in A Fresh Start'n, but here, some dialogue was incredibly loud while other dialogue was much harder to hear. I guess my only other complaint would be the ending, I don't know what happened.
Apart from that, it was a good film, one of the better ones to come out of the contest.
I was interested within the first 5 seconds of this film. The opening grabbed me and I wanted to know what was going on immediately. I thought the script was tight, and I liked how you didn't spoon-feed the audience with "As you know, Bob..." dialog. The animation was fine, nothing outstanding but it served the story. Unfortunately sound design was pretty poor: some characters audio levels were too low and others too high. Also, most of the shots were way too dark. Despite these flaws, I enjoyed this film, and it was in my top ten list I sent to the judges. I'd like to see more films like this from you.
