I've been really getting inspired with Big Data. They're a great group, with just catchy stuff. Also, this band has been playing in my ears for about 4 years, and I still just keep coming back to them.
Someone loves Rush.
The gem of my Rush collection is their "Profiled!" CD, which features music from "Presto!" and open-ended interviews so I (or a DJ) can pretend to really be interviewing Mr. Lee & The band.
Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite! - covered by The Flaming Lips guys this is blowing my mind, they covered the whole album and it's blowing my mind 
Rush, Queen, and Styx are all great bands with a very similar approach to music. They're not Pop ballads, nor are they hard rock jams; It's more of something in between. Masterpieces of music, for sure.
Though, my favorite band is still The Beatles.
I'm just not that big of a fan of The Flaming Lips. It's like the whole dress color thing that's sweeping the internet right now - you either see one thing or something completely different. And for that, The Flaming Lips are always just that bad-sounding band that was on Batman Forever. 
However, their cover of Benefit of Me. Kite isn't too bad. It captures the wackyness and disorienting-ness of the original. However, I'm still a bigger fan of the original. Is it a Victorian Steampunk-like stageshow, or a 60's deeply psychedelic pop tune? - That's the genius of John Lennon, I guess. He did write the song after seeing a poster, remember!
The Flaming Lips are great, Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots is a truly great album that I would hold up with greats like Sargent Peppers and Wish You Were Here. One thing about the Flaming Lips is they are willing to try really far out things that other artists might be to afrade to try, while they don't always succeed when they do it is wonderus.
I feel like holding one artist up as untouchable is just counter productive and when you are viewing one piece of art judging it on another you are just shooting yourself in the foot and making it mentally difficult to enjoy the broader scope of art as a whole.
This is my jam.
I like Power Metal, Punk Rock and Ska.
Switched over to 1970s synth. Kinda romantic stuff (I mean as in romantic period), and lots of stock sound effects as musical elements. Many are real short compositions, too.
Where would this great hobby be without that classic album The Mollusk, listening to Mutilated Lips right now as always it is great.
Just discovered the early 1980s band SEVERED HEADS. Their music is inspired by minimalist classical but with 80s tech. It's mostly instrumental, and what vocals are used are often samples and looped to be like part of the music itself. Here's one of their later, more popish, songs:

I definitely recommend the Icelandic band, Sigur Rós , who are recently notable for composing music for Game of Thrones. Their music never fails to provide me with creative energy.
Also, I don't speak Icelandic, but their sound is awe-inspiring, for sure.
Been digging Twenty One Pilots' new album Blurryface a lot. Also jamming to Deja Vu (thanks @Sonjira for the suggestion!) among others, including:

Blur (as usual; their new album is good stuff)

Definitely recommend checking all of these artists out!
I checked Tweny One Pilots about a week ago and I really love their "Stressed Out" song, as well as Fairly Local, among others.

Very cool song, Aqua... very 1980s, with the type of synths, how they're used, the synth-bass and drum kits. At first that song sounded a bit like the beginning of the MIAMI VICE theme.
My older kid is into "Eye of the Tiger" and "Happy" (the Pherrell version; not the one from P.I.L. that's in HOO episode 2).
Eye of the Tiger is a good rock song. I really like it.
I've been listening to the Transistor soundtrack a lot, In Circles
This has one of the best game soundtracks I've ever heard, maybe better then Hotline Miami, also a really different way to approach a cyberpunk dystopia.
