Re: The Screenplay Challenge

Okay.  It's finished!  I actually wrote this in about 75 minutes.  As in the previous post, this is called, "It's a Nice Day, Isn't It?"

And, as with all my scripts, ANYONE Is welcome to contact me at holdingourown "at" ymaill "dot" com if they want to make this screenplay into a brickfilm!!!!!!!

The story follows below, but here's a link for the txt file.  I counted the lines; I think it is just 17 lines short of the 6 page maximum (excluding the title page stuff).  PDF available on request at the email address above.

IT'S A BEAUTIFUL

DAY, ISN'T IT?

SCREENPLAY BY

MICHAEL C. TOURETTE

All scenes are in black in white.

EXT. STEREOTYPICAL 1950S TOWN – DAY

It is the quintessential perfect town, straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting, white picket fences and all.  It the kind of place where everyone
wants to raise their children.

CUT TO
One buttercup yellow house in particular.  It is well-kept, with a flower garden on one side.

CAPTION: 1958 AD

INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY

The home is modern for its day, with a staircase in the living room.  There is a visible doorway to the kitchen.  Enter HOWARD, a well-groomed man in his 30s, walking down the stairwell.

HOWARD
June, I'm headed off to work now!

Enter JUNE, Howard's dutiful housewife, via the kitchen entrance, holding a dish in one hand and a hand towel in the other.  She kisses Howard on the cheek.

JUNE
Have a great day.  I love you, Howard.

HOWARD
I love you, too.  See you tonight.

Exit Howard through the front door.

EXT. STEREOTYPICAL TYPICAL TOWN – DAY

HOWARD walks through the suburban streets, and passes by a neighbor's house with a driveway.  There is a car in that driveway, being fixed by MR. BROWN.

HOWARD
(calling over.) Good morning, Mr. Brown!

MR. BROWN
It's a beautiful day, isn't it?

HOWARD
Yes, it is!

Howard continues to walk.  He passes by another house, with a flower garden being watered by Mrs. Smith.

HOWARD
(calling over.) How are you, Mrs. Smith?

MRS. SMITH
It's a beautiful day, isn't it?

HOWARD
Yes: That's exactly what Mr. Brown said.

Howard crosses the street.  Passing him is LITTLE TIMMY on his BICYCLE.

HOWARD
Off to school, Little Timmy?

LITTLE TIMMY
It's a beautiful day, isn't it?

Howard stops walking, makes a puzzled expression, then resumes walking, until
he turns his head at a corner.

POV HOWARD.  A dentist's office is just ahead.

Howard enters the dental office.

INT. DENTAL LOBBY – DAY

There are several doors to patient rooms.  HOWARD enters.  His secretary, MISS ADAMS, is seated at the DESK.

HOWARD
Good morning, Miss Adams.  You sure
are here early.

MISS ADAMS
It's a beautiful day, isn't it?

Howard scratches his head.

HOWARD
Was that some catch phrase on the
Honeymooners last night?
Everyone's saying that.

MISS ADAMS
It must be the day doing it to
everyone.

Enter DR. JOHNSON, Howard's dental assistant, and MRS. CLARK, another dentist, via the front door.

HOWARD
Good morning, ladies!

DR. JOHNSON AND MRS. CLARK
It's a beautiful day, isn't it?

HOWARD
What's going on here?  Why is
everyone saying that?!!!

Dr. Johnson and Mrs. Clark look each other, then at Howard.

DR. JOHNSON
Are we wrong?  It's not a beautiful
day?

HOWARD
It's just that everyone's... aw,
never mind.  I'm going to warm up the
X-Ray machine.  Mrs. Clark, prep room
2 for Dr. Johnson's 9:15 root canal.

MRS. CLARK
Yes, sir.

Dr. Johnson and Mrs. Clark exit via one of the doors.  Howard walks through a different door, leading to the X-RAY ROOM.

INT. X-RAY ROOM – CONTINUOUS

HOWARD turns on the light.  It's like a regular dentist's room, but with a large, 1950S ERA X-RAY MACHINE in one corner.  A TANK OF NITROUS OXIDE is in the other.  Howard turns it on.

SFX: Static and radio whistles, with a low-pitched garble that sounds like indiscernible low-frequency speech.  Howard listens curiously.

HOWARD
That's strange.  Sounds like
someone's transmitting
communications on X-Rays.  Let me increase the power.

Howard turns a dial.  The speech, now cutting through the static, gets clearer and more normal-pitched.

X-RAY VOICE (v.o.)
Stage one of the infiltration is
complete.  Once we've assimilated
our forces inthis town, will await
further invasion orders.  Over.

HOWARD
Invasion?  Does that have anying to
do with why people are talking
funny?  Either way, I've got to warn
the authorities...

HOWARD turns around to leave.  Blocking the exit is MRS. CLARK

HOWARD
Oh, hi Mrs. Clark.  Just gotta check
something outside for a minute.

MRS. CLARK
You're not going anywhere.  And I'm
not Miss Clark.

HOWARD
What's going on here?  What's this all about?

MRS. CLARK
We are from the Saturnian moon of
Titan.  A few years ago, our
astronomers witnessed two
successive energy anomalies on
your planet's surface.  They were
caused by your A-bombs.  Since then,
we've been concerned about your
warlike species, and kept a closer
watch.  Now, last year, you sent
your first vehicle into space.  We
knew then it would only be a matter
of time before you brought your
violence to our world.  So, to
protect our species' survival, we've
decided to first pose as townspeople
to learn how you tick, as to find
the best way to eliminate your kind.

HOWARD
This is insanity!  Where's Mrs.
Clark, and what did you do to her?

MRS. CLARK
What we've done is so gruesome you'd
rather not hear me explain it.  But
don't worry; you'll soon experience
it first hand.

Mrs. Clark approaches Howard, reaching out at him.  Bursting through the arms her false bodily disguise are two SCALY TURQUOISE THREE-FINGERED ARMS, with each arm like a mini-tentacle.  Protruding from each finger is a sharp, knife-like CLAW.

MRS. CLARK
Your curiosity has done you in.  We
can't let you expose our plan.
It's not that we would let you live
anyway.

HOWARD
Now, hold on, here!  I...

Before he could get another word in, Mrs. Clark lunges toward Howard and swipes her claws at him.  Reacting instinctively, Howard ducks and veers toward the nitrous oxide tank.  Mrs. Clark lunges at him again with her claws, but Howard grabs the tank and blocks her arm with it.  Mrs. Clark's claws strike the tank, creating three gashes in it.  White gas shoots out of the gashes, enveloping Mrs. Clark.  She is knocked onto the floor by the wildly moving tank and begins laughing heartily.  Howard runs out the door as MRS. ADAMS and DR. JOHNSON rush in to aid MRS. CLARK to her feet.  They begin to laugh too.

MRS CLARK
(Hysterically.) It's a beautiful
d-hey-hay!!!

EXT. STEREOTYPICAL 1950S TOWN – DAY

HOWARD is running through the streets toward his home.  A NEIGHBOR walks toward him, unable to catch up to him as he runs by.

NEIGHBOR
It's a beautiful day, isn't it?

HOWARD
Oh, shut up, you creep!

Howard continues to exert himself as hard as possible, running.  He looks up.

POV HOWARD: His house is just in front of him.

Howard runs to his front door and through it.

INT. LIVING ROOM – DAY

HOWARD shuts his front door, locks it and rests his back on it, panting heavily.

HOWARD
June!  June!

Enter JUNE, at the top of the staircase.

HOWARD
(breathing heavily.)  Oh, I'm so
glad to see you!  The town's being
invaded by men from Titan!  They're
in the office, and all over the
place!  We've got to telephone the
cops!

June begins to walk slowly down the steps.

JUNE
It's a beautiful day, isn't it?

THE END.

Re: The Screenplay Challenge

Still four more days left to enter.

Re: The Screenplay Challenge

So today I tried something a little different. Instead of using Celtx like I normally do, I found a template for Apple Pages and used that to write my screenplay. However, I think I'll stick to using Celtx because I like being able to write to the same file on my phone and at my computer. I finished my screenplay, and here it is.

Re: The Screenplay Challenge

Ok so the new theme is one I had in mind for a while. The theme is Finishing the Race. Now if you think that is not a good theme because it might have been done before in a competition, please tell me and I can change it to something else.

I'll give you all about 2 weeks to finish, so the deadline is April 11.

Re: The Screenplay Challenge

I'll do it!

One other thing, my last entry, "It's a Beautiful Day, isn't it?" is something I recently outlined for the plot of a friend's game being developed.
