Re: Music That Inspires You

For me, writing is completely different.  When I'm writing, I don't listen to music, but usually have King of Queens episodes running in the background as "music".

Re: Music That Inspires You

Whilst writing or studying I have to listen to lyric-free music, as I can't focus otherwise since I'm listening to the words and it interferes with my thoughts.  Animating is different, though, as I don't have to consciously think as much, so I'm free to jam to whatever I please.  Sometimes I also listen to podcasts or radio shows.

Re: Music That Inspires You

I often sit at a piano and just play music until I feel inspired. I'm very musically-minded and I couldn't imagine making a movie without at least some music in it. I also get really inspired when I listen to jazz or classical for some reason; probably those two because they're both really similar in a lot of ways.

When I'm actually animating I listen to deep tech house or hard electro. Go figure.

Re: Music That Inspires You

That's funny; I find jazz and classical radically different, though I see where there are similarities.

This inherently catchy song which is in my animating playlist has literally kept me up at night as the melody runs through my head over and over again.  For MR. VERTIGO, as there are no lyrics.

I think it really is a great metaphor for the feelings we animators and creators can get when we shut out the rest of the world temporarily to work on our craft. - That being the exact inspiration for John Lennon when he wrote the song. And, the overall presentation of the song is a great match to my feelings too. - It's a little sad, in a way, yet, is open - almost uplifting in a sort of "alone" way. And, though the three part harmonies are what makes the song classic, the instrumental version is great too. Everything the Beatles did, when constructed, has some sort of masterpiece (or masterpieces) lying within.

I think it's debatable whether podcasts count as 'music,' however, I definitely listen to them too. Sometimes, just the soothing sound of some voices compliment the atmosphere of writing or animating, and, every once in a while, can really be inspiring in their own way!

I always thought Jazz kind of spawned as "anti-classical." - something else to listen too. However, since I do adore both forms of music, and Jazz often does use an upright bass, and other classical instruments, I, too, see similarities.

Definitely; it certainly feels apt in relation to Brickfilming.  It also speaks to me on a more personal level.  This past year I've suffered several personal setbacks and defeats when I thought I had it all figured out, and and this point I almost feel like I'm drifting from day to day with no idea of what to do for the future.  I won't go into detail for obvious reasons, and I certainly am working on things and making plans, including working on Brickfilming (because willingly spending hours on end in a darkened room playing around with little plastic figures is totally the best thing to do with one's life, amirite?) but I often wonder if I've just shut myself up in my personal little Nowhere Land and they'll just end up being Nowhere Plans.

But enough on that topic, I should really get to know The Beatles a bit better.

I think it's debatable whether podcasts count as 'music,' however, I definitely listen to them too. Sometimes, just the soothing sound of some voices compliment the atmosphere of writing or animating, and, every once in a while, can really be inspiring in their own way!

Oh, I wasn't trying to suggest that they'd be considered music, I was just saying I sometimes listen to them as an alternative to music when I'm animating.

On a side note, I need some particular music for my upcoming film.  Basically it's for an opening/introductory scene--I need something like an electric guitar riff, akin to the opening of Sillypenta's Warshaw, or something like this (except I obviously don't want to use the latter as it's already been used in Kill Bill, and I don't want to seem like I'm ripping off that particular movie, especially since my own brickfilm involves several assassins*).  Has anyone got any suggestions?

*(For the record, I haven't actually watched Kill Bill, in case anyone is wondering.)

Dyland, I agree with everything you said about Jazz & Classical, including loving them both (I prefer Baroque more than classical, though)

I'd take Beethoven over Bach any day of the week!

Them's fighting words!

j/k

However, Bach is my second-favorite composer of all time, next for Charles Ives.

Just love THIS SONG: On the Telehone by Ania, the B-side to her only single:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReylLKyS5pI

Keeps in my tradition of enjoying, and writing, telephone songs.

Also back into this one by the Metronomes, not to be confused w/ the 60s jazz band of the same name.  Brick7 was awesome enough to record the vocals of a much more upbeat cover version I recorded with a bassline that more closely resembled "Antenna by Kraftwerk:

Here's Antenna, not on my current Playlist, but I love it anyway:

Been into Italio Disco as well.  Ronnie Jones sings my favorite item, VIDEO GAMES.  Strange how it was written in 1980 but it mentions Star Wars, a game not released until 1983.  Maybe he's referring to the Star Wars pinball machine.
