Re: Café Corner

Ugh, I came down with the stomach flu last night. I don't mean to go into graphic detail, but let's just say I've seen my previous lunch twice.

Re: Café Corner

Has anyone else here seen this?

One of the animators on Robot Chicken re-purposed an NES Power Glove to work with Dragon Frame while he's animating. This is so cool, it's like the merging of two of my favorite things. I want to get myself a Power Glove immediately so I can do this too.

Re: Café Corner

For some reason I can't watch the video properly.  The sound is gone and I can't get it to work.

I have nothing personal against those who select the winners (I actually know one of them personally) , but Considering how little I respect the academy awards, I consider NOT being nominated as a badge of honor!  If I made a major motion picture, I'd actually ADVERTIZE it as not being nominated for anything!

Re: Café Corner

I often find Oscar nominations quite annoying. While some nominees are well selected, I often find that it seems like the panel is biased against popular/developing culture. Just because something's entertaining or it's subject matter doesn't have some deep cultural heritage/significance doesn't mean to say it isn't artistic/worthy of an Oscar. My best example is the 2011 Oscars (I think). The Social Network lost to The King's Speech in best picture: while they're both stunning, The Social Network should have won. Hands down.

Who would want to watch a movie about Facebook?

A lot of people?

I really liked the social network.

I thought it was insanely good. Kings Speech was excellent, don't get me wrong, but Social Network was superior in my opinion.

I don't know, maybe because it wasn't' actually about Facebook? Have you seen it?

Two of my most favorite hobby things...worlds colliding!

The only downside that I could possibly see with the Power Glove...set bumps.
Bumping into various things on such a small set would get frustrating. I guess it would take some time to adjust.

I've seen it a couple of months ago on YouTube. I thought it was pretty cool but it isn't an essential for brickfilms unless you're working on a big set like Henry et Edmond.

That is stinkin awesome, but like Kd2000 said, it would only be useful on a big setup. Still, I want one now! mini/tongue

Re: Café Corner

I drove back to university yesterday and then realized I had forgotten to bring a baseplate. mini/blankexpression I guess it's a good thing I live close to a LEGO store. I also forgot the acoustic foam backdrop I built, which means I can't record vocal audio at the quality I'd like for a couple months; I'm not sure how I forgot it, it's quite large; I'm becoming more and more scatterbrained as college progresses.

Re: Café Corner

Recently, DC Entertainment created a web series based off NBC's Constantine. Not HellBlazer. (Caution: Some foul language)
http://youtu.be/yjw4Goo8i-4
It was animated by Cool Town Claymations also known as Cool Town Creations. They have their own YouTube channel with their own Brick-mations as they call it.
Although I'm not a professional in reviews, here's my shot at doing it and I hope you'll agree with me in some points I've made.
The set designs and props were mostly made of cardboard, but still very impressive. The cab/taxi and the dumpster was simple and effective, although the dumpster lid could've been a bit thicker.
The figures had some resemblance to Lee Hardcastle's but made of different materials. Everything looked nice apart from the waist down, the legs were too thin. I loved the costumes, especially John's trench coat.
I wasn't a big fan of the animations. It was a bit choppy and hadn't had much action, I hope to see more movements even though it was a noir film. I didn't like how mouths were made of paper, it would be better if it was made of clay. Anyways, the lip animation on John was bad, and didn't look realistic when he was smoking, though it was good on the girl when she was speaking.
The cinematography was the key. How the shadows were used to the soft lighting was excellent. It is more or less as good as European brickfilms. I currently do not have the equipment and skills to achieve that.
As for the story, I do not follow HellBlazer nor Constantine because I don't have NBC so I have only got a small idea of what is going on. From what I can tell is that John Constantine is searching for two men who went missing. It is a universe where there's claymation and a little live action, Constantine is somewhere in America, and there's a television show and a comic book series about him. I have no clue who the girl is, but I have a pretty good idea of what she does.
If anyone who watches the show care to explain what' storing on, then that will be helpful.

I hope the future episode will explain more of what's going on, and features ghost, angles and demons.

Re: Café Corner

I won't comment on the story, because I know nothing about Constantine, but the animation was, to be frank, terrible. It pales in comparison to what a lot of this community is capable of. The biggest problem is that it was at a super low frame rate, definitely no higher than 8 fps. The cinematography and lighting was nice, but nothing a little experimentation and decent equipment can't do. Honestly, not all that impressed. (I'm being a bit critical because I'm surprised this appears to be an official DC enterprise.)

Re: Café Corner

I guess that guy makes it work, but I can't imagine animating with such an encumbrance on one hand.

He's animating with clay, or a clay-like substance, which is quite larger than LEGO figures. Presuming animating something larger is easier, it would be less of a problem. Plus, if you fit the glove on right, it is quite slim.

uh oh!

Um. I feel the need to point this out.
If someone here does try to attempt the Power Glove DIY...
There are actually two Power Glove sizes...adult and child size.

Just trying to save someone else out there some bucks and a moment of embarrassment/disappointment. mini/sweat
