Re: The 2015 Personal Brickfilming Goals Challenge

  • Finish all of the films that I have in active production/been putting off finishing (failed BRAWL, failed THAC, Skyfall clip, etc.)

  • Produce more than two films this year in total

  • Watch/comment on more of other peoples' brickfilms and try to participate more on the forum

Re: The 2015 Personal Brickfilming Goals Challenge

  • Finish a film that I began preproduction years ago.

  • Create at least five brickfilms over 30 seconds that have story to them (so excluding animation challenges and tests).

  • Experiment with new genres such as crime or horror.

  • Use a female protagonist.

  • Science fiction film?

  • And just get back into the general swing of things. Im super excited with what we as a community are doing this year and it should be a lot of fun if we can all achieve most or all of our goals.

Re: The 2015 Personal Brickfilming Goals Challenge

I suggest we all check in every two months (not every month):

film a high action movie in second half of year

investigate/hone effective camera movement techniques that don't look  yuck.

make a movie with no dialogue.

Let's see...

1) Get 2 episodes of Holding Our Own out in 1 calendar year.
2) Write scripts for episodes 7 and 8.
3) Organize the loose and stray unsorted bricks that I just have lying all over the place!!!!!  AAAH!!!

I miss your weekly topics, so it's nice to drop in another thought-provoking thread!

I feel like you should focus more on quality over quantity.  If you make 30 in a year,  it's quite likely that you'd hve to stretch yourself, and my 30 really tiny films, which, on there own, would hold little substance.  You'd have to consistently make a film about once every twelve days.  This would be especially difficult if you are making a 10 minute film as well.

Perhaps instead you should aim for a more moderate goal, such as 12 a year (making one a month) or six (one every two months).  Thus giving you time to really get those films nice and polished.  and hopefully it might give you more results for you work, as longer films are usually more memorable.

I've found for personal experience that movies that take more time usually turn out better than having multiple films each made collectively in equal time in terms of YouTube success, but I also find that I value the bigger film over the smaller ones as well.

('Tis merely what I suggest, though)

Re: The 2015 Personal Brickfilming Goals Challenge

I'm having a fairly hard time deciding on what my goals are. I think for now I'm just trying to write a good story to tell with bricks.

Re: The 2015 Personal Brickfilming Goals Challenge

I agree with Squid.

If you're keen on putting out content regularly, I'd suggest doing the animation challenges. What I've done in the past is build a 15 to 40 second brickfilm out of the challenge, just to try and do something short but sweet, and it's also quite worthwhile (you're learning new techniques from the animation challenge, and it's a good way of working on succint visual storytelling).

But for actual, longer, 'project' brickfilms, I think 30 might be too ambitious. A lot of us struggle to do 3, or even 1 in a year, so be careful not to spread yourself thin trying to do lots of brickfilms in a shorter period of time.

Re: The 2015 Personal Brickfilming Goals Challenge

Something I find that really helps me a lot is a simple daily goal.
Just make at least some progress on a brickfilm every day.  But preferably at lest one actual shot of animation if you're at that point in production.

It's been a useful way to actually make sure real progress is made, even on an off day, try getting that one shot done will still bring it along slowly but surely.
Of course, when possible, do as many shots as you can.

Re: The 2015 Personal Brickfilming Goals Challenge

I am hoping that the 30+ brickfilms is a joke.  I thnk we all agree that quality is the most important aspect.
