Topic: The 2015 Personal Brickfilming Goals Challenge

Happy new year everyone!

With the new year upon us, where oft-broken resolutions are made, I'd like to present a new challenge to the Bricks in Motion community.

List three personal brickfilming goals that you would like to achieve this year. They don't have the be straightforward, they don't have to be lofty, they just need to be goals you want to achieve this year. I will make a list tabulating everyone's goals and keep track of everything in this post.

Now here's the exciting part: At the start of each month, I will ask for everyone's progress on their goals. As people meet their goals, I'll make note of it and we can celebrate everyone's accomplishments together. If you don't meet your goals that month, that's okay, but really try hard to meet them by the end of the year! This isn't about public shaming, it's about publicly supporting each other and giving yourself an extra push to meet your goals.

So let's go make some goals!

Our Goals:

Nathan Wells

  • Complete Appetite Lost by my birthday (June 16)

  • Make a brickfilm that features a female protagonist

  • Make a brickfilm that uses brick-built humanoid puppets, like David Pagano

Greenshirt
Finish my western by June
Enter the 2015 Contest
work on my lighting in general

rioforce
Make a "feature-length" (10 mins  or so) brickfilm
Perfect my animation (especially easing and pacing) and develop a unique style of animation
Make films of different genres (like romance, tragedy, musical, pirates, etc.)

Mr Vertigo
Finish and release Seven Assassins by February 1st, or soon after.  (Did I mention the script is 24 pages long and that I've only filmed two partially completed scenes thus far?)
Make my entry to 2015: The Contest, if possible.
Generally improve my brickfilming and animation skills.  (Also, stop procrastinating.)

jstudios
Finish my detective film that I've had sitting around for a while. Really proud of what I've done so far but I just haven't done much.
Script a much longer film I'm planning, rewrite it.
Hopefully get started on voice acting for it.

jampot
Finish my as-yet-untitled Hun brickfilm by August (I'll probably start filming around March/April).
Animate a brick-built character convincingly (dem Mixel joints doe).
Do at least two more episodes of Vampire Town.

Dyland
Start a weekly brickfilm series (Sliders)
Score over 30 brickfilms over the next year

This one I'm hopefully going to begin tomorrow with the current challenge.

Make an intro/outro that I also formed in the past year
Come out with at least two 4+ minute films - longer than my usual ones, but not super long

Make a nice side brickfilm in a relatively short amount of time so Darkmoor isn't the only thing I make this year

That's one day after my birthday, actually!

Yeah, this is a goal of mine as well.  I actually have an idea for a script that would involve a female protagonist, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it this year, or if it is even brickfilm-able.  But nothing is set at this point.

This thread is a great idea.

  • Finish my as-yet-untitled Hun brickfilm by August (I'll probably start filming around March/April).

  • Do at least two more episodes of Vampire Town.

When I say brick-built character, I'm not including BIONICLEs, as I animate them on a regular basis already.

I'd say:

  • Start a weekly brickfilm series (Sliders)

  • Score over 30 brickfilms over the next year

  • Finish my 5 years in the making Johnny Thunder brickfilm

  • Make one brickfilm that features an all star cast of brickfilmers (like Vandy, Smeagol, and Nathan Wells)

I'm not going to lie: I've got some pretty huge goals. However, with motivation, and a great community like BiM behind me, I'm confident that I can get these done this year. mini/smile

Mine aren't super great, but it'd be awesome if I were to meet them this year.

Re: The 2015 Personal Brickfilming Goals Challenge

I would really like this year to be a productive one in terms of brickfilming.

  • Start entering more animation challenges
This one I'm hopefully going to begin tomorrow with the current challenge.

  • Start working on a long film idea that I formed in the past year

  • Make an intro/outro that I also formed in the past year

Having a difficult time coming up with a list for this.
Well, I guess if I had to make a list...

-Knock a few more things off of my Bucket List
-More sorting and organizing of my Lego collection (*gulp*)
-Watch/review/comment on more films

Nathan, are everyone's goals going to be added to the first post? Like a list? Not sure, only it looks liek you've double-posted your goals.

That's the only thing I have right now.

  • Make an emotionally appealing short film (romance or tragedy) with no dialogue

Well, it sounds like you've already got a film right there.  Combine all three ideas together.  Boom.

Better start soon, though.  Ten minutes brickfilms can be rough.  I've as of yet never finished one in a year, which is why I would suggest combining the ideas, less need to deviate to side projects, thus you could focus on the big film.
Also, perhaps you could use both non-minifigures and minifigures at once, perhaps making the film about the interactions betwixt the others and the minifigs.

(Also, I'll always help with anything if you need it)
