Re: Frame from Your Upcoming Film

Not to keep this side track going too long, but I can see why you would think that it would be cheaper. At this point in time it's a bit overpriced for it's capabilities, but it has certain features that Canon keeps above the Rebel line, and so from a marketing/corporate standpoint it has to stay at a higher price point than the T5i, just because of it's name and a couple features. Still a great camera though, in my opinion. It's only real disadvantage from a brickfilming perspective is it's size; sometimes it's a little large for a brickfilm set, and my old, small manual focus lenses can feel a bit awkward on it.

(Even more of a side-note, apparently I've used the work brickfilm so much that Firefox spell check recognizes it as a work mini/tongue )

Re: Frame from Your Upcoming Film

A lighting test for my project that I'll start animating very soon.

Not finalised yet (I want to get a bit more light on his face, for example), but pretty happy with it thus far.

That looks great! I like the light coming through blinds effect. Very nice! The color is really nice too

Re: Frame from Your Upcoming Film

Man, that is awesome. Maybe you could try putting a folded piece of aluminum foil beside the desk where it can't be seen so the light could reflect off of it and onto his face. I'm looking forward to this!

Re: Frame from Your Upcoming Film

It looks really cool so far.

As for adding some light to his face, I would suggest Shatnering.

Re: Frame from Your Upcoming Film

Thanks!

In the meantime, I think I've managed to finalise it.  I did attempt to do something along the lines of Shatnering, and I think it worked pretty well.

(Still just a lighting test, so the framing isn't final either.  Coming to think of it, this is probably the wrong topic to post it in...)

On a side note this is also the most complicated lighting setup I've done thus far:

Re: Frame from Your Upcoming Film

Very cool lighting. Are you filming with a DSLR? If you are, you might try shooting raw and pulling the shadows up a little,  that way you can get shadow detail exactly where you want it without brightening up the whole set and looking the dramatic look you have going.

Shooting in RAW <3. It really is a must if you want to get better looking lighting than what the presets give you.

ok, so, not as pro a frame, but a frame none the less:

I know I posted images of the church scene before, but I recently posted the live-action images onto my tumblr page and wanted to do side-by-side comparisons.

Yeah, I am using a DSLR (Canon 550D with a Helios 44 2 58mm f/2 lens, to be exact).  I have basically zero experience with post-production editing (although I've really been wanting to close this gap in my knowledge--I do have a free copy of HitFilm that I got in a promotion, but I've yet to find a good opportunity to use it), so I'm not really sure if shooting in RAW would be all that beneficial to me at this point.  I don't think I'd have the experience to Effectively use RAW to its full potential (considering I barely know how to use GIMP and don't even have PhotoShop) and I have a tight-ish deadline for this film, so I want to save time where possible.  Basically I want to get this film done by early February at the latest, and it'll be 10 minutes or more by my current calculations and I've barely started animating (I'll be applying for a film course, and I intend to use this film as part of my portfolio).  (If someone could conveniently teach me all about computers and digital editing, that would be grrrrrrrrrreat....)

Still, I might have to re-shoot what I've animated so far (which isn't too much), thanks to camera bumps and suchlike.

I'm just about to upload my camera/set bump repair tutorial, so maybe I can have a link for you in about an hour, so maybe you won't have to re-shoot. mini/smile
