Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

The reason they are there is to mirror swords with hilts to stop clashed swords sliding down and slicing off the hands of a wielder, but considering there are non-lightsaber bits on the side they could easily be cut off.

Personally I'm inclined to agree, but at this point there's really no evidence that they're even an intentional part of the design (or that their implementation is intentionally this poor, anyway).

Since I don't have time to do the whole trailer...

I wonder who will be the first to recreate the whole thing in lego...

That was briefly my plan for this weekend, but I have too much uni work to do.

My initial reaction to that was "HOLY CRAP THAT IS AMAZING" but in reality, I'm kinda skeptical now. I really hope it has a purpose or practicality other than looking cool.

I mean, looking at it, it could at least provide your hands with a little protection from being lobbed off. If you're fighting somebody head on, it'll be harder for them to weave their Lightsaber around yours to cut your hand off. Presuming that the output has the same properties as the main Lightsaber, it actually seems like a good idea to me.

It makes sense, having a hilt and all. But the "saber" bits just aren't close enough to the main handle, so it wouldn't provide the protection one would want if you locked sabers. The opponent's saber could slide down and chop off the "emitters" without coming in contact with the blade.

Me, not kidding. After I finish my current Christmas video the next brickfilm I'll be working on is recreating this baby!

That bloke in trooper gear could not have been one of the clone troopers since they're all based off of Jango fett, and he obviously doesn't look like Jango Fett.

That's the old Canon (Legends).  Under the new canon, including Star Wars Rebels, they stopped producing clones of any sort and started recruiting after the Clone Wars.  Boyega (the actor) is said to be a lead character who started out as a trooper.

Based on the trailer, it doesn't feel like Star Wars.  The style doesn't say Star Wars to me.  In fact, given the Cumberbatch narration, I thought I was watching a rehash of the Into Darkness Trailer.

I don't think that's Cumberbatch. Collider.com is claiming it's confirmed to be Andy Serkis, but I dunno where they've gotten that information from.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

Max von Sydow is what I read.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

Wonderful trailer. I was convinced it would just be a few panning shots of characters/props in darkened rooms, revealing nothing. What they've done is just show enough 'Star Wars'- Tatooine, Falcon, X-Wings, awesome TIE Fighter noises- to get everyone properly hyped.

We won't know fully until next December, but everything we've seen so far of this film has been perfect.

I'm not sure who's voice it is.  To me it sounded like a strange Cumberbatch voice, but Cumberbatch himself said that he wasn't going to be in it.  It doesn't sound at all like Max von Sydow to me. though maybe.

For a while I had been really hoping that Max von Sydow would do the voice-over and the whole trailer would be kinda like Skyrim.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

The voiceover was by Andy Serkis.

I would've said Max Von Sydow.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

The voiceover and opening shot was probably the main thing I disliked about the trailer. The opening shot itself just looked really bland and uninteresting before the Storm Trooper popped up for a jumpscare[?]. The voiceover was also pretty generic 'evil demon bad guy' thing that didn't feel like Star Wars to me.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

Given it's Serkis, I'm guessing that he plays an alien via mo cap, hence the odd voice. Given his lines, I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't evil. It sounded more like a disgruntled Yoda than like a Sith to me.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

I believe this diagram that I found explains most everything:
http://i.imgur.com/I98Rndg.png

The only possible question is the possibility of those bits being cut off and if the direction of the blade would be affected at all. It is possible, however, that the handle and bits are made of Cortosis, Mandalorian iron, and Phirik, the three metals that cannot be sliced through with a lightsaber.
