Topic: Lego - Is this a bomb? (New Short)

Hey guys,

New short I just finished not long ago.

I would just like to say although this is a short clip. I feel I made quite a bit of improvement in terms of several areas I seemed to have trouble with in the last video. I believe I was able to fix them due to the great responses and feedback I received on the first one.

All in all I would appreciate to hear your opinions on how this video is especially if possible from original critiques from my last video and of course new critics and feedback are always more than welcome.

The video:
This short was originally intended to be made to put in a quote but I felt the need to extend it with a bit of humor.

Also I would like to give a big thank you to Jampot for the logo watermark. I appreciate it a lot. Would be happy if you notice it!

Any feedback you can provide would be great on how I can improve my video's or improve something specific in this video.

Sincerely,
Divine.

Unlike Eurobricks, our spoiler tags don't hide pictures. So it ain't doing any good. mini/tongue
And the link box thing ain't lined up with the logo over of Youtube.

Now, great job. There wasn't any flicker or set bumps, and the animation is much improved.
It could be smoother, but it's still good. As for the pacing, you probably don't need a motion every word like at the end, as it makes the talker seem hyper-active, try every other word and it should be a bit more balanced.

The figures did get bumped a time or two, the camera angle was a bit too close to ground level, and I completely missed what I assumed was the punchline, but you're still improving a lot. Keep up the good work!

Re: Lego - Is this a bomb? (New Short)

Hard and fast rules like -animated movement every other word- do not work, look at what words you want to emphasize in the script and have movements which emphasize those words, or movements leading unto the emphasis. Try to avoid having the movements come back to neutral each time, to make things more dynamic.

Hey Pritchard Studios,

Ha ha I noticed that! I thought it was just me yes it definitely isn't helping mini/lol

ohhh I thought it was meant to be above I'll fix that up later today!

Are you able to help me out with this part? I'm a little confused by what you mean, but would like to know. Can you elaborate a bit more?

the camera angle was a bit too close to ground level

I thought so as well at the time, just because I created an archway for the entry and it wasn't seen, I'll fix that in the next video.

and I completely missed what I assumed was the punchline

Ha ha may I ask what you thought the punchline was? mini/bigsmile

but you're still improving a lot. Keep up the good work!

Thank you Pritchard Studios.

Hey SlothPaladin,
I apologize but I am also confused with your term, or your feedback are you able to tell me in a different manner?

Try to avoid having the movements come back to neutral each time, to make things more dynamic.

Do you mean when he goes back to how he was with his hands down in neautral position? And do you mean keeping his hands always moving or away from the neautral zone?
If you can give me some more info that'd be great. As I am not really familiar with what you guy's mean by motion, and emphasizing.

But thank you for your feedback Pritchard Studios and SlothPaladin.

Sincerely,
Divine.

Re: Lego - Is this a bomb? (New Short)

I'm using the term -motion- for any time a hand or something is moving, after motions or gestures the hands always seem to come down to a neutral position, the position the figure started in. Sometimes it's good to have them move a hand up and hold it.

When I am talking about emphasizing take a phrase like, "What were you THINKING!" -what- is the question of the sentence and -thinking- should be strongly emphasized. So when -what- is said you could have a minor questioning gesture (I like a slightly raised hand partly turned or something like that) and then -THINKING- would be something more bold like quickly throwing up both arms in the air while arching back a little.

Is that clearer?

Re: Lego - Is this a bomb? (New Short)

Hey SlothPaladin,

Thanks for getting back to me, I understand now what you are trying to say and what you were referring to when you were speaking about emphasizing.

So just to clarify, if the phase were; ''What were you THINKING!'' when you say -what- is the question of the sentence are you refering to having the hand slightly raised for the speech of ''What were you...''? And then raising the two arms for ''THINKING''. I apologize for any confusion but getting the right answer will really allow me to understand exactly what you are referring too and confirming it.

And do you recommend less motion of character movement? I am also just a little puzzled, if the hands should not go to neutral position what should their position be when his speech is done?

I will definitely take note of what you've mentioned on my next film and give it a go. Just quite frankly I thought if you don't continue to put motion it would look unnatural or choppy but I will take in what you've said and attempt it on my next film.

Sincerely,
Divine.

Re: Lego - Is this a bomb? (New Short)

Yep, that's what he is saying.

As to the neutral position, let's head back to the example phrase.
"What were you..." Left hand rises slightly, stops.
"...Thinking!!!" Both hands explode up, the right from were it was, and the left from were it stopped previously after rising. As soon as they reach their peak, they both return down as the speaker is ending the "...ing" syllable.

Note that the left hand doesn't return back down. It goes up, stops, then rises along with the right hand.
Both only return to the neutral position after the entire phrase has ended. That help?

And Sloth is right, movement is for the emphasized words. BUT, you wanna watch the tone of the short and emphasis more or less accordingly. If the character is calm and/or quiet, use less movement. If he is excited/angry/panicked, or the short is more cartoon-y, then more movement is recommended.

Re: Lego - Is this a bomb? (New Short)

Thanks a lot for that Pritchard Studios that summed the lot of it for me!

And also thank you SlothPaladin for taking your time for your response as well, much obliged by both of you.

I will work on this on the next film!

Thanks a lot guys.

Sincerely,
Divine.
