Topic: Ideas.lego.com: My rejected idea [Part 2 begins @ post 20]

My friend Nick and I submitted some figures to ideas.lego.com based on Cartoon Network's "Regular Show".  It took 11 to 12 days of review before it was rejected (their website says 3-5' they must be busy).  The reply stated that the franchise isn't acceptable.  Here are the guidelines listed that it violated one of:

Politics and political symbols
Religious references including symbols, buildings, or people (this one is dumb)
Sex, drugs, or smoking
Alcohol in any present day situation
Swearing
Death, killing, blood, terrorism, or torture
First-person shooter video games
Warfare or war vehicles in any modern or present-day situation
Racism, bullying, or cruelty to real life animals

I actually didn't think this was so bad considering that the Simpsons is a franchise they sought out themselves.  I didn't see where RS was worse than the Simspons in any of the above areas.  Oh, well.  Not complaining or upset with them for rejecting (time to build something else); just posting because I'd love to hear your thoughts.  And: go!

Strange... May you post a picture?

Re: Ideas.lego.com: My rejected idea [Part 2 begins @ post 20]

"Regular Show"

Sex

I'm stumped. But, if I think about it a little more, Cussoo (or whatever they want people to call it) might be taking this to the extreme. There are a lot of these things in the show, but in a very mild manner (a few revealing dresses here and there, some fistfights between characters, a little language, but never any strong obscenities, and a light, suggestive racial stereotype). But, you do have a good point where they accepted The Simpsons but rejected this one. Either they are under some new management, or someone's trolling you guys...

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Re: Ideas.lego.com: My rejected idea [Part 2 begins @ post 20]

It's also possible they have a list of IP's that have been pre-rejected for various reasons, and they just aren't saying anything about it to avoid any possible bad press.

Re: Ideas.lego.com: My rejected idea [Part 2 begins @ post 20]

I don't know about it, but from what i know RS contains a lot of adult jokes and content that had to be censored out before it could be broadcasted, and they still kept some stuff in. Plus, it's one of those shows that adults obsess about. Like My Little Pony. And as a lot of people here know (and would most likely rather not be associated with), the entire fanbase of MLP consists of a bunch of perverted neckbeards.

And i doubt they'd make sets that have an association with people like that.

I also don't watch The Simpsons a lot, and yes, it contains a lot of violence and stuff but generally it's more or less accepted by a lot of people. And it also appeals to people that didn't see the actual show, maybe a bit hard to explain, but still. It also doesn't have a ridiculous fanbase that makes sexy art or writes inapropriate stories about the main characters (i don't know about RS though, but it being a kids show with an adult fanbase just like MLP, maybe that's a reason).

Yay!  It worked!  I've redesigned Mordecai's hands since then, and designed a guitar, lawnmower, and coffee mug.

It could also have something to do with the origin of Mordecai.

Seems like a fair and well reasoned assessment!

LEGO has already kinda violated these bits.  Star Wars and some other themes are filled with death, Indeana Jones had a LEGO Ark of the Covenant, and, though not seen in the sets, Lord of the Rings has a bunch of smoking.  It also even has alcohol in the sets, though that's not a modern day setting.

Perhaps they just don't want it.  Maybe it didn't violate their specific rules, but maybe they just didn't like the idea.

And as a lot of people here know (and would most likely rather not be associated with), the entire fanbase of MLP consists of a bunch of perverted neckbeards.

lol
Not really.  There are many bronies and Pegasisters who are neither of those things, though I do know one who only has a neck beard, but their style of facial hair is entirely non-relevant.  The entire fanbase of MLP would also include every little girl who watches the show, so that couldn't be true at all.

Also, there are really gross people out there who will make really gross artwork for just about anything.  Star Wars, Marvel, and DC also has many gross fans, but LEGO makes sets for that.

the real problem is that MLP is run by a competing toy company, and due to that problem, it is unlikely that we would ever get LEGO MLP.

Whoa, that was totally unnecessary. There are many little boys and girls who watch my little pony, and even if it does have an adult fanbase doesn't mean every singe brony post pony !@#$ on the internet.

Who censored my post?

Re: Ideas.lego.com: My rejected idea [Part 2 begins @ post 20]

Nobody did. There's a list of words that immediately get blanked out, and the word you put was one of them.

Re: Ideas.lego.com: My rejected idea [Part 2 begins @ post 20]

I think LEGO just might be the most hypocritical company ever. mini/lol  They have released sets from movies and shows containing all this stuff already. LEGO Indiana jones even had Nazis....

Dude, didn't you learn your lesson in the "Introduce Yourself" thread? A lot of people here watch that show. Be a bit more considerate to the folks around you.  mini/blankexpression

Seriously, just...wow. Vicious.

no more brickfilming *sad face*.

Ahahahahahahaha. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, although the generalisations and brashness flow freely above. I find the MLP fandom cringeworthy, overrated and irritating, yet that does not mean whatsoever that the fans of the show are wrong for liking it or automatically subscribe to the stereotype of the neckbeard.

Urban Dictionary wrote:

Neckbeard
Derogatory term for slovenly nerdy people who have no sense of hygene or grooming. Often related to hobbies such as card gaming, video gaming, anime, et. al.

Re: Ideas.lego.com: My rejected idea [Part 2 begins @ post 20]

I've met a ton of Bronies and only one or two of them were normal and didn't write/read fanfics or make/look at/or do "stuff" with sexy fanart and so on. Sure, maybe a generalisation of the entire fandom, but most likely a true one.

Re: Ideas.lego.com: My rejected idea [Part 2 begins @ post 20]

Wow, that video shed a lot of light on Regular Show. It's honestly more interesting now. I can also see how that would get it blacklisted with LEGO.

Re: Ideas.lego.com: My rejected idea [Part 2 begins @ post 20]

Anyway, this has derailed the thread enough.
If you wanna discuss Bronies, do so in the MLP thread, not here.
Love 'em or hate 'em if you will, but this isn't the place to discuss them.
Thank you.

HOO,
Lego has proven that they have double standards, but also keep in mind that Lego Ideas is run by different people, and they may have their own rules. Yeah, it's the same company in the end, but Lego hasn't always done so great with every single part of the company communicating perfectly. Plus, it doesn't have to make sense.

Backyardlegos also has a great point. I didn't bother to watch the video, but some licensed properties have dark secrets under the more innocent masks. Something like that could easily have disqualified it.

Re: Ideas.lego.com: My rejected idea [Part 2 begins @ post 20]

Backyard Legos, that piece of obscuriana you provided was a lot less family-friendly than what I see on TV.  I never saw it before.

Pritchard, the info you provided just above about different staff for ideas.lego.com resolved my confusion.  I never knew that.  Thanks!  I was never upset by the rejetion but found it puzzling and that piece of info explains it.

Part 2 of my reject idea.

I didn't know that causes weren't in the guidelines.  I assumed they were because the Back To the Future set contained a page on Michael J Fox's cause in the instructions.  But if the primary theme of a project is a cause it's outside the guidelines.  We could just make this a regular puzzle picture frame.  But as a project it wouldn't mean anything to me.  Hope you like the pic.

I'm considering making a prototype MOC, maybe replacing the dark azure pieces with the more common medium blue, creating professional looking boxes & instruction booklets, and selling MOCs on http://bricklink.com to raise money.
