Everyone's Hero (2006)

Superman and his wife made this, guys. I'm not even kidding, it's not a belated April Fools' joke or anything. Look it up. Reeve co-directed this, and then he died, and then his wife Dana finished it off (and she died) and the film was released in cinemas posthumously.

Guys and Dolls (1955)

I had the privilege of seeing this extraordinary play at the Hale Center Theatre, in Orem, Utah, on a vacation last summer. The cast was remarkable, the songs were top-notch, and its message was heartfelt and inspiring.

The movie adaptation, however, was different. The cast was interesting, the songs were the same, and I don't think its message got across to the viewers as nicely as the play did. I don't exactly know. But, it felt bittersweet to see Guys and Dolls in film form. And the whole thing is shot on a sound stage, so there's no actual New York City atmosphere. The main cast feels so forced. Brando as Sky Masterson? I mean, Sinatra as Nathan Detroit is an all-right pick, but even though Marlon Brando is a marvelously talented actor, I simply don't see him as Sky.

Pacific Rim

INSPIRATIONAL
I'd been wanting to watch this for a while now, and, wow, it was good.
I really liked the action scenes and the creative story elements like the drifting and all of the delight characters.
I highly recommend.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Inside Llewyn Davis

A great piece of cinema. I love the Coen brother's use of unsystematic characters. Overall, I was put in a bit of a depressed mood afterwards; which is good though, as the film was able to feed the audience emotions in the correct manor.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The LEGO Movie
A fun movie, but I was not a fan when

Spoiler (click to read)

They added the live action part. I understand the point, but I felt it disturbed the coherence of the film

Other than that, it's a pretty good film.
7/10

Bridesmaids
It's a chick-flick, but it's pretty solid. The main character is well rounded and crafted (Not to mention that Kristen Wiig's acting is superb), and the story is rather dark for a comedy. Overall I enjoyed this movie a lot.

Gravity
Got it on Blu-ray. Epic FX. To enjoy them you must understand that more than 99% of what you see is CG, as I learned checking the special features on the disc. Also touching story, feels longer than what it actually is. It worth seven oscars, expecially the VFX one. 10/10

The first Lego film, "The Magic Portal" includes segments of Lego interacting with a live-action world, so it's established and aceptable.

I don't believe he was referring to the presence of live-action, I think he was referring to the explanation of how his father was President Business, the whole metaphorical sense of the story how Finn was acting out his feelings towards his father, and the presentation of the whole moral. That's really the only major complaint I've heard about the movie. (I personally loved the crap out it)

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Oh yes.  It was absolutely brilliant.  I really, really, really liked it.  So as not to tempt anyone to read any spoilers, I won't say much now.
I thought the story was wonderful and thought out, I really think it adds a lot to the Marvel Cinematic Universe...and changes a lot, too.  As a stand alone film, it was perfect, but they also did a great job opening it up for the next films.
I liked how much Nick Fury and Black Widow had a role in it, and Falcon was a nice addition.  The fighting style has changed a lot, and it looks great.

Man, the more I think about this movie the more I love it.  My only complaint would be the score...Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, The Avengers, Thor, Thor: The Dark World, and Captain America: The First Avenger all had wonderful, recognizable themes.  This is the only one in the MCU so far that I feel was lacking a real main theme.  I don't recall The Incredible Hulk score but I don't remember the movie much either, no opinion on that.

It was amazing, you need to see it.

I didn't like it because I don't think the LA segment fit in well with the animation. I feel the movie would have benefited from being 100% animated without the inclusion of real-life elements. It added an unnecessary dimension to the film with, like Chris W. had mentioned, the metaphor of the father being P. Business and so forth. I would have liked it if P. Bus. (And the entire universe, actually) were not being portrayed by humans and were on the lines of a more typical animated movie.

this film is really super funny I encourage y'all to watch it. It is a romcom but it's very well done and even if you don't like romcoms i'm sure you'd like this because it's real funny. It also seemed to do the touchy subject of social anxiety very well. I recommend it a lot.

I was a bit prejudice against Frozen before seeing it, but I actually found myself to really like it afterwards! I'm not particularly fond of musicals, but the great story and plot covered for that all the way!

Ok, I understand. I personally loved it and 100% believe it fits in there, primarily because this is what makes The Lego Movie stand out. If it just ended with "oh ok we saved the day woooooo" then it would make it just that, a typical animated movie. Because for most the movie, it's exactly what you expect it to be. And then the big reveal happens and you're just like "OH. Didn't know it was gonna go that far." But adding that layer of depth it makes the ending oh-so satisfying. If it ended the way all of us thought it would, it would have fallen into the "typical animated movie" category, and only that.

Continuing the discussion on The LEGO Movie:

Spoiler (click to read)

The message sent with the relationship between Finn and his father and the way in which it changes, and the concept of the master builders, are part of a campaign which LEGO has been pushing for quite some time now on how people play with their product, so regardless of what people think about it, that live action bit was going to be in there. Personally, I quite like and think it's appropriate for a movie about LEGO.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Frozen

Well this sucks, because I actually liked this film.

I didn't want to watch it, but my sister dragged my into the theater because she didn't want to watch "Monuments Men". As it turns out, I kinda enjoyed it.

The reason this is such a bad thing is because every female human that goes to my school loves this movie and doesn't stop talking about it. I decided that it must be bad because a bunch of teenage girls kept ranting on about it. Since it was actually a good movie, I have to eat my hat.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Pan's Labyrinth

Really disturbing, but also really good.
The villain is probably one of the scariest villains I have seen in a really long time.  Throughout a large portion of the film, I felt myself in a very agitating state of suspense because that guy is just way, way, way creepy in a horrifying way which felt brilliant.  It was interesting seeing the way the "real" world was integrated with the fairytale elements, though, I had hoped that the fairytale world would be a little more prominent than it was, I really wanted to see more of that realm, but I still found the story very good.

I'd recommend it to anyone who can take the really disturbing parts.

I had much of the same feelings. Literally every female I know who has watched this have made it one of their favorites, unfortunately I also liked it a lot, kinda shows how manly I am mini/frustrated.

I watched the 1986 Labyrinth, and it made it onto my most hated movies ever list. So I have steered clear of anything bearing that name. But opinions can change, and newer is better... sometimes.

Pan's Labyrinth and Labryinth are very different movie.  PL isn't a remake of Labyrinth, it isn't even about someone getting stuck in a maze, they just both happen to have a labyrinth in them.

However, there are still some other similarities between the two:
Both involve a young female protagonist.
Both have characters dressed in heavy makeup and prosthetics (though in PL it only has two such characters, both played by Doug Jones)
Both have puppets.
Both have fantasy elements crossed with real world elements (though Labyrinth spends way more time in the fantasy realm)
Both have a baby in it.

But despite all of those similarities, the story is still very different.
Though, all of those similarities did still remind my of Labyrinth at least, and I now have the urge to see it again after watching Pan's Labyrinth.

In my case it was mainly because I had made fun of it a lot before seeing it, and then actually ended up liking it. So I had to face a lot of torment.

And you are right, anyone can enjoy these movies, male or female. However, they are princess movies, and they are marketed towards girls. So you can understand why it would be hard to look some of your teenage-male high school friends in the eyes after saying you loved the movie.

Lots of teasing from both boys and girls these last few weeks.....

EDIT: @GEF Yeah, I felt the same way. But don't worry! If you listen to this song then you will feel like a man again!
