Spring Cleaning 2013 [Montage]

Youtube

This montage is a nice bundle of clips from several abandoned projects of mine. They were all filmed during 2013 and the first month of 2014.

Re: Spring Cleaning 2013 [Montage]

I'll try to comment on each 'set', as it were, so that I can be of as much help as possible mini/bigsmile

Number One: interesting cinematography. I actually quite like the way you’ve used the space. Watch out for camera shake, it’s the bane of my movies as well!

Number Two: Watch that run cycle - Deadpool’s run was very broken and slow. Maybe just run the same frames through at a higher FPS.

Number Three: That set is amazing! The statue being knocked was quite noticeable, and the movement vehicle flying by needed more frames to make it smoother.

Number Four: The movement were, again, very slow, especially when the guy swings the hammer. Watch Fancypants’ tutorial on easing - it’ll help loads.

Number Five: That walk is brilliant.

Number Six: Love the tunnel set, but the movement of the cart could be smoother. Also, try not to bump the set walls when animating. It’s easy to do, and shows up massively on the footage. The camera movement in the leprechaun meeting was really good.

Hope all this helps! Any chance of some more pics of the space bank set?

Re: Spring Cleaning 2013 [Montage]

Thanks Jampot! Like the description says, these clips were made during 2013. That means I have already improved significantly, but thanks anyway, because I can still put your advice to good use. mini/smile
Set bumps are something I really have to watch out for. I need to build walls that are sturdy, but they need to be removable to get good camera angles.

Most of these (The first four) were shot using a DSLR. The other two were done using a webcam ( Logitech c920). Was the change in quality really noticeable? I prefer the sharpness of the DSLR to the sometimes grainy webcam. The only reason I made the switch was because my DSLR has a very shallow depth-of-field. That means I can only focus on certain things at a time, making my mostly-good set design practically unnoticeable.
Another reason I like using a webcam is that it's much easier to avoid bumping the camera and it's easier to make smoove movements with it.

Do you think I should continue using a webcam or try using the DSLR again? (canon EOS 30D)

P.S: I'm considering rebuilding the space bank set (I took it apart without taking pictures) and making that film. mini/smile

Tell me about it. I have to animate on loose, creaky floor boards, which means I get a ton of bumping (but I manage to cover the worst up).

Go for the DSLR. The resolution is much better, and if depth of field is shallow, why not change to another lense? That's why I've never gone for a webcam, though I can see why a lot of brickfilmers do.

Alright, cool. Thanks! mini/bigsmile

And why not change to another lense? Because $$$... $$$ that I spend on stuff I don't really need.

Know the feeling. In the last couple of years I've become terrible at saving money.
