For all those who saw it in 3D, were the few extra bucks worth it? I'm thinking about seeing it again (for the third time) and I wanna see it in 3D, but I've heard mixed reviews of if it's worth it.

It didn't detract from the movie, but I don't think it added much at all.  If I had the chance to redo it, I would have saved the extra couple dollars and seen it regularly.

Re: Official LEGO Movie

Saw it there today. By George, was that a magnificent and wimmsicle experience.

Re: Official LEGO Movie

FINALLY SEEN IT!!!

Honestly? This movie is now in my Top 20 of all time. For me personally, it's up there with The Matrix, Ghostbusters and The Usual Suspects - I loved it so much! There's so much I could say about it but I won't now, 'coz tired and stuff.

So good. SO GOOD!

MUCH ENJOY. SO LEGO. WOW.

If you haven't seen "The Lego Movie" yet...
...go see it....like....now.....

I wish I could afford the airfares to fly to a country it's released in and see it right now. Unfortunately I'll be waiting another six and a half weeks.

Re: Official LEGO Movie

Went to see it yesterday. It was definitely awesome. My only gripe would be that the animation was at times kind of spastic, it would have been nicer if it wasn't as much so.

I personally think the opposite, I loved the spastic animation. It gave a brickfilm-like quality to it.

It might have been 'spastic' at times due to the fact that the movie is filmed part brickfilm/part CG.

Also...

The 'spastic filming style'....this might have been done intentionally.
Remember, 'the dad' from the real world built the town.
But, 'the child' from the real world is the one who built all of the unique creations and brought in the hilarious characters.
So, in a way, you can say that 'the child' is the one who is doing all of the animating up until the end.

Actually the part stop motion mentioned looks just to be the rebrick entries in the film.

Nope.

Re: Official LEGO Movie

I'm 97% sure that the credits animation was all real stop-motion.  You could tell.

I was thinking that too but wasn't sure.

Re: Official LEGO Movie

I was pretty positive that the credits are all stop motion but didn't want to say anything in case I was wrong mini/tongue

Those credits were beautiful, people kept giving me weird looks when I was the last person in the theater and still watching the credits.

For anyone who didn't stay ALL the way until the end (because I almost always do that, just because) there was just...

a black screen with the text RIP Kathleen Fleming, if I recall correctly.  I guess she was the director of entertainment development at LEGO and had been working on the movie before an accident that she died in.

Re: Official LEGO Movie

The credits are definitely stop motion, and the rebrick entries (duh), but I'm skeptical about there being any other stop motion in the film. It should be fairly easy for people who have spent a lot of time with the medium (cough us cough) to spot actual stop motion, especially since they weren't totally rigid with the 3D rigs. When I go and see the movie again (probably this weekend) I'll see if I can spot any stop motion, and when I inevitably get it on DVD or Blue-Ray I'll do a really detailed analysis. Unless the directors want to just give a straight answer about how much stop motion is used, that would work too. mini/tongue

Re: Official LEGO Movie

I wish there were more than just two sets with Benny in. Even if I had a job, there's no way I'd be able to shell out £80 or £190 for the spaceship or the Sea Cow (as much as I would want to, I don't know that I'd be able to justify spending that much on LEGO in one hit).

It's a shame because I have a bunch of classic Space sets that were my dad's, but I only have two red spacemen, which is still pretty cool. I do want Benny though. He's probably my favourite character, him or Metalbeard.

I really, really, really want to hear the entirety of Batman's song for Wildstyle. The lyrics were just hilarious.

Also, look at this:

He carries a mini-Kragle! Anyone fancy building one?

During the credits it plays the entire song (my parents both looked at me when black out curtains were mentioned)

Re: Official LEGO Movie

There's a classic space set again.  I need to get that so much.

It's a shame though that Benny has fake scratches, though, it looks rather weird.  It's also a bit sad how there are four different versions of uni-kitty, as it wold be really annoying for someone who had the sea-sick version but not the original.

On the subject of stop motion and CGI, if there are, indeed, random scenes where they actually animated stop motion right in the middle of the film,  these shots may possibly be only partially stop motion with perhaps CGI elements in the background, which could make them even harder to spot.

Same. But, I was there just for the acoustic version of "Everything is Awesome".

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?
