Re: What was the last movie you watched?

So here's my opinion of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty: absolutely amazing.

Here's my explanation. The cinematography is gorgeous; DPs around the world are drooling as they watch it; almost every shot of the film could be taken as a still and be a beautiful photograph. Normally this would be considered excessive, but in this case, it doesn't distract from the story, and it works very well with the story being told, both in mood and the main plot device. No, the writing isn't perfect, there a few glitches here and there, but the story arch is wonderful, the pace felt just right. There are some good funny moments too. It was really refreshing to watch a movie which simply told a meaningful story without flashbacks or an overload of effects (although there are some, but used in a limited capacity) of an endearing character who you really want to succeed, but you aren't sure that he will. And it's beautiful to boot. mini/smile

World War Z

Holy cow, this was a great movie! It was the very first zombie movie I had seen, so the very first part where the zombie transformation was emphasized was a bit freaky for me, but at the same time it was what made the movie so good for me. The message of the film was great, and it actually focused more on that, than extra violence and shooting which is what a lot of horror type films today seem to consist of.

Turbo (2013)

Now, I said I was done with DrameWarks, but my brothers were watching this in their room, so instead of doing nothing, I sat down with them to see how long I would last before the first poop joke was cracked. But, Turbo was scot-free of any low comedy! No fart humour or potty references throughout the entire thing! I wasn't too impressed with the story, but other aspects of the film made up for that. Turbo really isn't all that bad, for a DreamWorks film...

Have you seen How to Train Your Dragon? I also dislike a lot of Dreamwork's movies, but this one is probably one of my favorite animated films. It has a touching story and the humor definitely isn't based on "farts" and "potty references" mini/wink

Now, the last film I saw, was a VERY professionally made Star Wars fanfilm; Versus: The Way to Shadow.
You can watch it for free on YouTube. Everyone but the clones speak french, but there's subtitles available.
I really liked it, but mostly because of the astonishing effects. The clone troopers were completely CGI, and I must say they looked almost as good as in Revenge of the Sith! The story was okay, and the acting wasn't bad, at least not the french speaking characters. I didn't like the way the clones were speaking, though. There was a lot of unnecessary swearing, which didn't fit into the Star Wars universe. (You can see my comment on the video if you'd like me to elaborate.)

All in all, I would recommend it for those who like clone troopers, lightsaber battles, or just wellmade cgi-effects in a Star Wars fanfilm.

Yes, I have. I actually found that one to be a little boring and obnoxious. But, that's just my opinion.

The Dark World

As far as Marvel superhero movies go, it's very good.  Particularly every scene involving Loki.  It also actually a bit sad at some points.
Thor is definitely my favorite series in the Marvel movie universe.  I like how the films feel not as much like  typical Marvel superhero films, but more like a cool mix between a fairy-tale fantasy, a space opera, science fiction, and some other things.

Ender's Game

There are a whole lot of problems with the original book which were rectified in this, but at the same time, there were a few good points in the book left out or left out or altered.  However, it's still a really good film.
In the book, there's this big subplot about some kids on the internet, which, although somewhat interesting, distracts from the primary story and is almost completely unrelated.  But the movie took this out.
However, there's another important plot element about the bugs which is a ridiculously clever idea, and really makes them more alien then most aliens in science fiction.  In the book they spend a lot of time talking about this feature and the implications of how it affects the actions of the bugs, which is all really clever, but in the film it's just casually mentioned.
But I'm okay with this since the climax is much more epic, whereas in the book it passes by without you having realized it even happened, which is horribly dull.
The ending of both, however, is still also really, really clever.

But ignoring the book entirely, it's a really good film.  Better than the book?  Probably.  The book has many problems, therefore I am for once very glad that many changes were made.  It's still nice to have read the book knowing the clever and logical thought processes Ender uses throughout the story.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The subplot with Ender's siblings on the internet is just a seed for their roles in subsequent books.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The subplot was one of my favorite things, and it does tie in with them later on in the book.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

This was good...but it wasn't an adaptation of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

I don't get why Walter Mitty needs to fantasise in this story. He has a job in photography, he contributes for a fashionable culture magazine, he lives in the city, he has a nice mother, and he's freinds with this awesome photographer dude. He has reasons to want more in life, yes - but he's not so opressed that the only joy he can find in his life is to escape into his own head. It made sense in Brazil because Sam Lowry was living in a nightmarish dystopian future, and he was a bumbling loser. It doesn't help that Ben Stiller isn't wormy enough to be 'awkward' and 'unattractive'. You need more than a horrid fashion sense, Ben - as ugly as that jacket is.

The original Walter Mitty was a middle-aged man stuck in a dull and opressive marriage. Since his wife was basically his mother, he daydreamed to escape this exceptionally dull life. Ben Stiller is not Walter Mitty. I don't get why they adapted this story if they were going to change it to the point where its unrecognisable. They should have just cut out the daydreaming parts and saved the money it must have cost to buy the rights to this story.

Anyway, who calls their child Walter in this day and age?

Gravity (2013)
It was so awesome! About the best space movie I have seen. People watch it ounce to just see it, but then watch it a second time to see the special effects , some astronauts that do spacewalks pretty often are scarred to watch it.

The Lost World (1925)

This is one of my favorite movies ever as of today. I just watched this for the first time and I am blown away.

Once you get over the fact that everyone in this film has been dead for a very long time, you will really enjoy it. Everything about this film is great and genuine. The jungle miniatures and sets, the story (based off a book), the characters, everything! Its all so charming, and I can easily say I enjoyed it more then any movie (I saw) that came out this year. The dinosaurs were also really freaking cool. I was more impressed by those then Smaug in the Hobbit movie. This was almost better then "obscured outlooks"!

This film is just great, I can't even express how much I love it.

Monty Python and The Holy Grail

Every time I put this film in and watch it, I am always interrupted just before the ending. So I have seen all of this movie (except the ending) at least 5 times. Even though the end was sort of a cop-out, I was actually satisfied. The movie itself is just great. Its my kind of humor and I almost never get tired of it, not to mention its quotable that its ridiculous.

High Noon

Wow. This was way better then I was expecting. The acting is great and the story telling is just marvelous. It gets better and better as the film goes on, and the climax is worth it.  You have to watch this movie and see it for your self.

*sigh*, They just don't make 'em like these anymore.

no more brickfilming *sad face*.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Lost world rocks!  And so what if everyone in the film is long gone?  The best movies are timeless.  I love ONE WEEK starring the very deceased Buster Keaton.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters

It wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be, and therefore I ended up really enjoying it. I'm a huge fan of the books but the changes they made didn't annoy me at all; it was only the problems with the actual film that nettled me, and they didn't very much. Some witty dialogue, a few hilarious moments and some cracking set pieces, but still not as good as the books.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)

A strange, yet lovely sci-fi flick. It was fun seeing some of Spielberg's earlier work, but the film still had its dull moments. But, the majority of the acting is really decent. Not perfect, but decent. But, still I must ask: Why all the product placement, Steve? Did you mean to make it a primary part of the plot? Well, they aren't!

Nevertheless, I still enjoyed this.

Mary Poppins (1964)

After seeing Saving Mr. Banks in December, I had been wanting to re-watch this. It's still a classic, no matter how many times I watch this film, being one of the first movie-musicals I had ever seen. It's still one of my favourites. It's really just so loveable.

Hero

This film is amazing. I disagreed with part of the morality it advocated, but this film is artistically amazing. The use of colors to represent different subjects and people's perspectives was one of the most amazing things about this film.

I think both Walter Mitty movies are essentially taken from a shorter story in a magazine, both taking many liberties with the source material.
