Topic: ANP's Guide to Camera Movement

By popular demand, I have created a tutorial video explaining the basics of animating camera movement in a brickfilm.

ANP's Guide to Camera Movement

Hopefully, this should help people to start animating more cool camera motion in their films.

Here are some more pictures of the dolly if you want some: Link

Re: ANP's Guide to Camera Movement

Thank you! So much!

Re: ANP's Guide to Camera Movement

This....is....perfect.

Yes. Yes, thank you. Yes. I need to build a dolly now. I always thought it was a good idea, but was too lazy to try and figure out how. I am now motivated to go figure it out. I am really excited.

Thank you so much for making this, its useful beyond comprehension.

no more brickfilming *sad face*.

Re: ANP's Guide to Camera Movement

You forgot to start making out with a physical manifestation of dutch angle shots

Great video though, very helpful, makes me want to get a DSLR and a tripod even more.

Great tutorial. Say no to post production movement mini/smile
For people like me who have webcams I have pictures of a simple and easy to build dolly rig in this thread- http://www.bricksinmotion.com/forums/to … olly-test/

Re: ANP's Guide to Camera Movement

I think I could totally build that dolly with pieces I've got...like exactly the same.  Hmm...
This was really helpful, I'm sure it'll be a great reference for me to use when doing camera movements!

Re: ANP's Guide to Camera Movement

End's dolly deserves to be quoted in its entirety.
There are many different ways to build a perfect dolly.  End's is actually easier to see:

(sticky tack keeps it from moving)

I assure you, building a good dolly will probably be the most rewarding investment of time you will ever make as a brickfilmer.
Measuring out dolly shots is hard, and takes a load of stressful time, but with this perfect dollies become the easiest and fastest thing to animate.

Though, for camera movement, a high quality web can is probably a more advantageous thing to have.  There are many sorts of camera movements which I would very much like to try out, but I cannot because I haven't been able to build a thing capable of supporting my camera's weight.  I'm still trying to find some ways, though.

Thanks for the quote mini/smile

Re: ANP's Guide to Camera Movement

This is a great reference, thanks, Squid. I built a dolly not too long ago, and it's quite similar to yours.

Re: ANP's Guide to Camera Movement

I don't know if anybody will, but it'd be great if someone made a tutorial for building a good dolly.

That's completely unnecessary.

It's very easy to see how the dolly is made.  I took pictures from enough angles to see all of it.  It's especially easy to see with End's.  It's also very hard to take it apart and put back together.  I don't want to waste my time making one.

Also, depending upon people's setups, the exact requirements for the construction could differ.  End and I, for instance, have very differently made versions of the same general idea.  As long as one understands the basic principle (which should be pretty obvious) one should easily be able to build one of their own.

Re: ANP's Guide to Camera Movement

I can finally simplify my way of camera movements and make it SOOO
much easier thanks to End and you! I'm hoping to spend my night building one of these so I can incorporate more elaborate camera movements into my films! I simply cannot express how grateful I am for you guys! mini/bigsmile

I may do one. Maybe when I realize when I'm being lazy (which is pretty often)
