Re: The 'Contrast' update thread!

Yeah, same here. I feel that if my film was good enough to enter the contest with it int he first place then I should definitely complete it anyway.

Also, I have some more frames up in this topic here.

I'm going to compose music for two films for this contest, prepare for some epic bombastic fantastic scores! mini/sunnies

Re: The 'Contrast' update thread!

Welp, I'm gonna get off my lazy behind and go animate for the contest. Wish me luck! I hope I don't fall prey to the "Contrast Curse".

EDIT: Here are a few.

Re: The 'Contrast' update thread!

I'm actually ready. mini/smile
Of course it won't be great but I feel I've improved my animation.  Also the quality was better as the film went on as I had a new camera and had to adjust to it.
Anyway I hope it's not very low in the results...

Have a nice day! mini/smile

Here's a frame from the film, after color correction.

Due to some time issues, I'm having to cut out a few specific parts but I think I've got it figured out.  I expect it to be just about four minutes, now.

Re: The 'Contrast' update thread!

I'm pleased to announce that I've started production on my entry.  Just now I've finished shooting about 4 seconds of footage for the evening (stop laughing, it was a shot of several minifigs walking at once in a very cramped space).  It was not an animating experience I'd like to repeat soon. mini/sweat  Hopefully most of the other sequences won't take as long to film. mini/lol  I plan to get a good chunk of animation done by this weekend.

Anyway, I might get a few frames up soon.

Really good frame there.

Re: The 'Contrast' update thread!

Jonn, I second Squid. Glad that part of the script wasn't cut. mini/wink

@Mickey,
The first has a focus issue, and the second is slightly over-exposed. Although I'm sure those will be less noticeable in a moving clip.

I couldn't get a composer, so it's back to Kevin MacLeod's archive. Got some tracks that sorta work, but they're no masterpieces. Been working on the sound a bit, probably not going to bother with footsteps. Don't want to share too many more frames, but a poster may or may not be on the way. mini/wink

So...I think, with the exception of titles/credits and stuff like that, I've finished mine.
Right on schedule to boot, which is good news for both BRAWL and STEAMPUNK.
Will triple check tomorrow, but Squash may be getting a very special PM in a few days.
The sound was a LOT easier that I thought, and I'm quite happy with it.
And I've somehow achieved the overall atmosphere that I was hoping for.
Came out to 3:15 of footage, but there's twenty more seconds of....Well, "Spoilers." mini/wink

No bonus scene though, that was thrown out when I entered BRAWL.
So no comedic after-credits clip to lift you out of the deep depression.
I'm going to bed now, good night.

NO!!!!!!! WHY!!!!

Re: The 'Contrast' update thread!

A frame I animated yesterday:

Re: The 'Contrast' update thread!

JonnDthunDer - Not too bad. However, it looks pretty grainy, which detracts from the frame. Also, looking at your frames, it appears that you've been doing a lot of shots from overhead, looking down on the subjects.

This particular shot would likely work much better with the camera simply placed in the set or near it to look at the characters directly.

Had that same problem with my movie. So I just took the camera and set it on the set directly instead of using the camera rig. And now I have a couple of nice scenes with the frames at the mini-figs eye level. So yeah, Squids idea works mini/bigsmile.

Re: The 'Contrast' update thread!

I do have to say that probably too many shots are angled down, even if just a little.  This particular one has a few camera movements so out of like 15 seconds only 3 are at this angle, the others are closer to eye level.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Re: The 'Contrast' update thread!

So, you know what I said about not getting a custom score? Well, I lied.
Well, it was the truth, but now it's not.

After taking a bit long to respond to my PM, TrollBridge Studios offered to score my film, and just sent me the first draft. While it's not quite perfect, (Yet!) I can't say how excited I am to get something unique and made just for one of my works. I'm looking forward to finishing that up, and in the meantime, I'll try to finish that poster I promised ya'll.

Also, I caved to jediknight1997's pathetic whining and built a set for the bonus scene. It may just be a bit more rushed than originally intended. And I'll have to hurry up and find yet another voice actor.

@Jonn, The tiny bit of grainy-ness won't be a problem, but I second the advice of keeping things at eye-level.
But may I say, if that's what I think it is, I'm really looking forward to seeing that scene.

Re: The 'Contrast' update thread!

Yes Pritchard, that is what you think it is.
mini/wink
I already started doing a tad bit of the sound and it's pretty cool hearing and seeing it!

Re: The 'Contrast' update thread!

Wow! I've animated like 3 minutes in 5 days...about 1500-2500 frames. mini/eek For me that's insane. And I'm only, like, halfway done. Then editing, vfx, sound, and music. But in it's unedited form, it's looking good. Here's a frame:

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/legoguy501/Frames/shot_6_frame_000057.png

That white room was annoying, because it meant slight light flicker...oh well. And this has no color correction or editing done yet.
