Bestia

"Bestia" means beast in old French. The story of this 22 minutes-long brickfilm is based on true events that took place in the 18th century in France. It took us two and a half years to finish this project. Enjoy!
(English subtitles are provided)

You can also watch the trailer if you haven't yet and if you don't have 22 minutes free right now:

Re: Bestia

That was beautiful. Many of the scenes were incredibly filmed, especially the "hurry" shots, where the horses would gallop through the wilderness. Scenes like that are hard to film, IMO. You pulled it off, and there were many other very good shots in the film.

It's worth 22-and-a-half minutes of your life. Bestia is a winner! I smell a BiMA!

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Re: Bestia

Excellent film! The camera work and set design are both outstanding; I noticed a lot of original shots and camera movements which I liked a lot. The voices were totally spot on, as well as the dialogue. I especially loved the scene where Miss Marie-Jeanne stabbed the beast on the bridge, since that scene was fantastic in all aspects.

Good job on this!

Wonderful! Everything were just great! And the sets was so beautiful. mini/smile

Re: Bestia

I loved the changing seasons shot and the camera movement before the guy shoots the beast.

Re: Bestia

Overall, a really great film. As mentioned above, I specifically loved the Marie-Jeanne stabbing bit - it was executed brilliantly. The voicing was great, as was the story. There's a lot of fantastic work in that film. My two, small and somewhat insignificant qualms are that there was the odd bit of jolty movement, and that it seemed a little drawn out. But to summarise, a wonderful video.

Thanks everyone for your positive comments, they are really appreciated! mini/bigsmile

Sorry, but we don't understand what you mean... What does "jolty movement" mean, and which part of the film are you talking about when you say that?

Re: Bestia

Well done, sir. That was excellent! mini/delirium I enjoyed every second, and I can't wait to see more from you.

Re: Bestia

This is a really cool brickfilm.
I love when someone makes something really big but actually puts enough effort into it to make it look actually good.  More people should make these "epic" brickfilms.

The only major complaint I have is that most of the scenes are in need of some colour correction.  It usually looks too yellow or orange.

Really? That's very strange, because it doesn't look too yellow or orange on our screen... Could it be possible that Youtube automatically corrected the colors by adding yellow and orange? Because that's what it did with the picture that represents the video without asking us if we wanted to keep its corrections. Here is an excerpt from Bestia we put online last year. Could you please tell us if the colors look the same as in the film itself on your screen so as to see whether Youtube changed them?

Re: Bestia

Well, this has been added to my "Amazingly-Ambitious-and-Simply-Stellar-Brickfilms" list.

I've always been a big fan of the longer more involved brickfilms. I think they have always been the most inspiring and encouraging, and they certainly show off the best bits of the hobby.

The pacing was great, as it never felt slow or boring, but didn't rush through things either. The use of real-life paintings helped ground the work, and made the historical setting all the more real. Occasionally there were a few mistakes in the subtitle's timing/wording, but nothing too big or distracting. You're got some amazing shots in this, and it was a great pleasure to watch.

Thank you for sticking with this, and spending your time and money to make such a masterpiece.

Thanks for your kind words, Pritchard Studios! mini/bigsmile
Well, if anybody else notices a few mistakes in the subtitles (although they've already been checked out), don't hesitate to tell us, we can easily correct them on Youtube!

Re: Bestia

I liked it very, very much. The color of it suited the style of the film. The animation was very well done, I especially liked the transitions for time, I don't know the exact term of it, but I hope you know what I mean. Good job guys!

Well, sorry to disappoint you, but we think the best way to learn something is to observe and try by yourself. So, no, sorry, we’re not going to make a tutorial especially for you (and you didn’t even say “please”...) Just watch carefully, test by yourself, and use your imagination!

Re: Bestia

yeah i made inspired by yours mini/bigsmile but you have very complex ones and im most likely ot the only one who wants to see them but now that i think about it you most likely destroyed them after the shot was done

Re: Bestia

That's it, masterlego, we've destroyed everything and we don't really feel like building those kind of things again right now, you know...

Re: Bestia

I repeat here, it's a great performance you've done mini/smile
