Trust me... How they portrayed the Mandarin in Iron Man 3 really pissed me off more than Iron Man 2 mini/madhead. They made him a bigger embarrassment than some people's gay portrayal of Aquaman (Yeah I'm going that far)!

Spider-Man 3 was bad, but it still had some redeeming factors and it at least tried to engage with the audience. I forgot about B&R, but it's still good to make fun of. Catwoman sucked, but not worse than Superman Returns - Same with Origins. The Spirit and B&R are the only two of those films that I would consider worse than SR.

I already gave my reasons why I don't like SR, but I think of Iron Man 2 in the exact opposite way. I think people give it too much flak, I honestly don't know why, as I thought it was a good film.

I think in all honesty why people don't like SR and IM2 are because they just didn't stand out. Everyone wants to create a Spider-Man 2/Dark Knight/Avengers, but some films succeed at it better than others.

Actually, I found SR much more engaging.  The plot of Iron Man 2 was completely nonsensical and basically consisted of Tony Stark acting like an idiot for the best part of two hours.  And the whole film felt like a giant Avengers commercial.  Nick Fury's presence in the film was unnecessary beyond being a blatant Avengers product placement and the whole point of Black Widow's role bypassed me completely (though aside from anything else, I personally think Scarlett Johannsen is over-rated and annoying).  (And in case you're wondering, I really enjoyed the first Iron Man film.)
As for the Avengers itself... well, it was decently made but frankly didn't really live up to the hype and felt underwhelming.  Certainly it's nowhere near as good as The Dark Knight.

Well, I just realized that I've said next to nothing on the topic at hand itself, so I'll try to get back on topic.  I'm personally quite excited for Man of Steel; it looks like it's going to be a fresh take on superhero films.

In fairness, in response to those who are getting "tired" of superhero movies, it seems to be mostly Marvel which is churning out the bland, average superhero films.  Aside from The Dark Knight trilogy, Man of Steel, and a couple of one-off films such as Green Lantern, DC hasn't really made that many superhero movies lately.  At least they seem to be trying to be original--after all, it was they who started the whole Reboot Craze with Batman Begins.

Well, I know basically nothing about superman, and I've seen bits of those old superman movies and whether or not they're traditional superman movies or the classics they're really not very good at all. This new man of steel looks much more interesting, thought provoking and obviously the cgi is going to be much better, I'm excited for this new superman movie mini/bigsmile

Spiderman 3 and Iron man 2 are given too much bad talk, they're actually okay...sure spiderman and iron man had cheesy moments, but some of them were pretty funny and actually made the films more entertaining.

Re: Superman Told in a Different Way. Man of Steel! Thoughts

I hope that this film will show the "I'M BATMAN" Dorks to shut up.

Re: Superman Told in a Different Way. Man of Steel! Thoughts

I really liked Supermsn Returns had no issue with it at all.
This reboot really strays away from what we have seen and
is more geared to a more modern take on the man of steel.
I am really looking forward to it.

Re: Superman Told in a Different Way. Man of Steel! Thoughts

Saw it yesterday. BETTER THAN EXPECTATIONS!!!

Awe-striking visuals and incredible writing!

Re: Superman Told in a Different Way. Man of Steel! Thoughts

You liked it? Good. Some of my Boy Scout buds saw the midnight premiere and they said they loved it. I myself, however, haven't seen it.

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Re: Superman Told in a Different Way. Man of Steel! Thoughts

It was a Zynder film.  It had elements of Nolan's influence, but in the end, it was Zynder's film, stylistic action, underdeveloped story and character.  I wished Nolan didn't take a backseat on this.

That's not really a counter point. Could you elaborate on why you think Lechnology is wrong?

Re: Superman Told in a Different Way. Man of Steel! Thoughts

By reminiscing flashbacks of his blurred past, Clark soon understood that life's truth were being shown to his very eyes as he grew up. I can really connect to that. The way they portrayed it in the film was executed well.

Re: Superman Told in a Different Way. Man of Steel! Thoughts

You know, now that a load of people are saying Man Of Steel sucks - I'm actually interested in seeing it. I usually have a different opinion to others (don't like the recent Doctor Who, hated The Dark Knight Rises, thought The Avengers was meh, thought Prometheus is a good schlocky horror film but nothing more, haven't quite been convinced that Blade Runner is good yet, Pink Floyd's The Wall is one of my favourite films, and one day people will realise how good Where The Wild Things Are is) so I'm always interested in anything that receives a strong reaction. At least it proves we're not the mindless sheep hipsters and Marxists think we are...even though their kind of right.

I find it funny that people are blaming Christopher Nolan when its obvious he had little to no creative input. You might as well blame the sound technician...or the caterer.

Also, I've just realised that Russell Crowe is this generations Kevin Costner. He has only one real hit (Gladiator), and its a film which people are gradually starting to realise wasn't actually that good. Heck, both Russel Crowe and Kevin Costner have starred as Robin Hood. I can't wait to see what Crowe's Waterworld will be...

Eh, in fairness to both men, they've each had their share of award fodder (some of which could probably be argued as hits, though I'm tempted to say the term doesn't really apply to most films that aren't standard action/adventure fare because of the way those films dominate the box office). A Beautiful Mind and Master and Commander were well received films, as was Cinderella Man. Costner had Dances with Wolves and the Untouchables. I agree that Costner and Crowe share the propensity for choosing embarrassingly bad projects on occasion, but I don't think it's accurate to call either a one hit wonder.

Re: Superman Told in a Different Way. Man of Steel! Thoughts

I went to see Man of Steel for my birthday, and I couldn't disagree more with the critics who panned it.  I understand that this is opinion, but I frankly find some of the reviews downright ridiculous (Wired's article is a good example of this--beware, though, there are SPOILERS).  I find myself disagreeing more and more often with the critics when I watch films these days.  I'm actually beginning to wonder whether they were secretly bribed by Marvel to give this film bad reviews...

Anyway, I'll probably post my further thoughts on Man of Steel on the "last film you watched" thread, if I get the time.

Which "embarrassingly bad" films Russell Crowe has ever acted in?  I can't think of any.  I really liked Master and Commander, and thought Robin Hood was good too (it wasn't exactly amazing, but I still don't see why it got such bad reviews).

Re: Superman Told in a Different Way. Man of Steel! Thoughts

Rough Magic and The Man with the Iron Fists come to mind. My wording left something to be desired; when I said "choosing embarrassingly bad projects" I meant that more in the sense that his decision to work on them was misguided, assuming he wants to be thought of as an actor who stars in great films. This is all is relative, of course- a Steven Segal type's poor decisions are bound to be much worse than Crowe's because the former doesn't have the acting ability to support them. Still, when it comes down to it I think Crowe is inconsistent at choosing projects that are better than mediocre and a look at his filmography supports that conclusion.

Re: Superman Told in a Different Way. Man of Steel! Thoughts

Crowe wasn't bad in Les Miserables, in my opinion. His acting was good, but his singing mini/twitch could have been better.

But, guys, let's not turn this into a "Costner sucks" thread. This is a thread devoted to talking about Man of Steel.
