Re: YouTube

That is the single most frustrating thing about YT.  Taking away colour options for the channel modules was one thing, but now I can't even have a freaking background.
What's worse, for YT partners at least, is that they have taken away nearly all partner exclusive branding options:

Video Page Banner - Gone
Partner Channel Banner - Now "Channel Artwork" which replaces both the background and banner
Side Column Image - Gone

And all the remaining features are no longer partner exclusives, rendering the program virtually worthless.

I actually have a video on my band's channel that has 117,000 views!  I'm so amazed by the fact that it has had so many hits!

Now it's showing 115,000.  Dumb youtube never can make up its mind!

The partner program is so worthless that I didn't even know I'd been made a partner.

Truer words have never been spoken.

Yeah, the 'Partner' program is virtually useless nowadays, being that non-partners can monetize videos, have custom thumbnails and channel banners. It used to be one of my goals as a film maker to become a YouTube partner, but now, five (Maybe six) years later, there's no logical reason to aspire to become a partner.

In other news, I do like the new channel trailer feature which overviews your channel. Not that it means anything to me, because after four years I still can't find a way to effectively promote our channel.

Re: YouTube

I am wondering if the constant changes are hurting some channels ability to get video views. I am having the hardest time getting above 100 a day, used to average a lot higher then that. Anyone else notice that?

I'd love to get 100 a day, but don't know how you did that.  Maybe you can share some insight.

Re: YouTube

It's terrible, guys. Absolutely terrible. I used to have over 40 subscribers, and now I'm down to only 4. All thanks going out to the One Channel.

I remember how the channel layout before One Channel was, and how much people hated that one. And then, people hated the one before that. YouTube was driving us all mad. And then, Google stepped up to the plate, and didn't make matters any better. The channel design that comes after One Channel will probably be much worse, and all of us can bet on that.

Like Sam said, it's just not 2008 anymore. mini/sad

Eh? That seems somewhat drastic; did they unsubscribe, or were they the accounts Youtube was deleting a while back?

Re: YouTube

Yah, that's quite a drop, I'm not sure how the one channel design would cause that. Also, I finally hit 200 subscribes! mini/bigsmile

That drop seems very unrealistic. Perhaps you may have mixed up a few numbers?

Congrats, Backyard. Always a good feat.

Re: YouTube

You never know with Google.  You know what makes me laugh?  their "motto", "Don't be evil."  It's a joke, right?  I get it!

Re: YouTube

I think you need to reign in your Google hate. Not everything they touch or produce is terrible, sure they've made some mistakes, but i wouldn't say they're evil. Also, I don't think you can attribute the cringeworthy One Channel design to an extreme loss of subscribers.

Re: YouTube

woohoo, looks like youtube just deleted everything from my channel
http://i39.tinypic.com/2qlcsqb.png
you were correct, michael. Youtube is most defintiely evil.
It's NBD though, because this was my alternate account and I only had 2 videos. they were reuploads of things on my main account which is still ok because I never connected it with a Google + profile. So it just deleted stuff from a channel I never used, but I'm still pretty miffed about this.

Re: YouTube

No, I do believe YouTube is evil.  If you do research on their total lack of disrespect for privacy, and some of their other tactics in their history, you'll see what I mean.

I have 25 videos that are public right now, so that is a fairly good number. I try and comment on other videos on youtube, and I upload fairly high quality films.

Re: YouTube

Well that is crap for you topit. Odd.

I just think that if you dislike YouTube so much, why do you still use it?

Re: YouTube

Topit's dilemma seems similar to my drop in numbers with subscribers. While it might seem "drastic" and "unrealistic", it's not impossible.

I've decided that I won't upload to YouTube anymore. I might use it every once in a while, just for watching videos. But, just not uploads. I might get a Vimeo account or something. But, when it comes to uploads, I probably will never use YouTube again.

Re: YouTube

Many people are switching to vimeo.  I may open an account there and post the videos there as well.  Maybe if everyone makes an exodus, YT will become irrelevant.

Re: YouTube

The problem I have with Vimeo, is that they have Plus memberships. A normal account only gets this many megs/gigs of upload each month. Now for people like us who generally don't release films often, this is okay, but for people who, for instance, upload daily, this will be a big scare-away.

Just my 2 cents.

Re: YouTube

ok, I have this figured out. For some reason now there are twoo youtube CHANNELS linked with one Google account. One of these is my google+ profile, and the other is a Google+ PAGE. G+ Pages are basically the same as facebook pages. So it seems, all my videos and playlists are on the google+ page, and the profile is just completely blank because it didn't exist on youtube until a few days ago. I'm really glad I didn't link my main channel with google+ because that would be horrible.

Keesret, what I would do is, have a Youtube and a Vimeo account. Upload all the random crap on Youtube, because that's about all it's good for. So everything can go there. But if you make a completed film, post it on Vimeo. Then you can send your vimeo account to people as a sort of professional portfolio of all your completed works, and all the random tests, experiments, updates, and troll videos can go on youtube where more people will care about them.
