Legend Of Argonia

Click for youtube

A trailer for a possible upcoming full feature movie, I have an idea on what to create for the plot and story, if I start this,

I have added a masking part, a fighting part, and several other interesting little things in these 4 scenes.

I hope to achieve a 40 minute movie with over 50 scenes, and just over 42 characters, this is something I plan to work on and don't know whether or not I'll do it, but if it is a possibility.

I put in a lot of effort for this trailer and I really hope you guys enjoy, there are 4 different scenes, and doing different scenes is quite a first for me, but I believe I did it well.

I'd really appreciate a review on it, and what people think, were I can improve, what I could add, would you guys want to see it. Please let me know, I do this for inspiration and motivation.

Thanks in advance,

Generalned

Re: Trailer - Legend Of Argonia

Man and you were asking me for ideas before LOL? That was really good bud, definitely something I would watch.
My advice take your time and assemble a voice cast. I can help you with that if you want.
As for the story, very interesting. If you can flush it out the way you have said then it will be really great.
Keep posting updates and if there is any help I can give you let me know.
K bud good job, keep it up.

Re: Trailer - Legend Of Argonia

Hey there, thanks mate I really appreciate it, I'm glad you liked it, I defiantly want to assemble a voice cast, as I said there is alot of characters, over 42, I have taken pics of all of them individually, and have info on them so you can some background, I'll make an update thread in preproduction when I get a chance, And I'd really like some help if you got the time, so I appreciate that, as doing this on your own can very difficult and stressful.
The story seems intact, and hopefully if I can get a script writer to help me out it would be great, I'll have to improvise one on my own.
I'll post some updates first chance I get and let you and others know what happens in pre production when I post characters.

Thanks again for your reply, and nice review I really appreciate it, it keeps me motivated.

Kind regards, Generalned

Re: Trailer - Legend Of Argonia

Your walking animation is totally fine, it looks pretty good; but then the frame rate in the first scene is not good, and a lot of the animation later on goes to quickly. Before you start working on a forty minute film, I'd suggest working on your animation. It doesn't matter how good your story is; if it's hard to look at, people won't watch a film. Jumping into a huge project is not the way to get into film making; all the really great brickfilmers made a lot of test and short films before they ever made an amazing 10 minute feature. A good story needs to be presented well; it's a film, not a book, so it needs to look nice too. Spend some time working on animating at 12 or 15 fps, and try taking more frames for a movement; there are a lot of tutorials out there on easing in and out and other animation techniques, here are a couple: from Nathen Wells, and Fancypants. I know it's a lot of work, but I promise you will be much more proud of your films if you take the time to animate at a higher frame rate with more frames. mini/smile

Re: Trailer - Legend Of Argonia

In addition to what backyardlegos said about animation, I would suggest fixing up your sets a bit also.  The set on the first scene was just a solid colored wall, and I have no idea what it was supposed to represent.  Was it supposed to be indoors, outdoors, etc.  One could also see your black backdrop and a uneveness in the wall on the right side in the first part.  The set for the dungeon like area with the cyclops was probably the best one.  The only thing I would say about that one is fixing a hole around the door, unless there are supposed to be holes in the wall.  The third court yard type place was okay, but it was pretty bland and would look better if you could get a green baseplate, since I'm pretty sure that was supposed to be outside.  The fourth set had a piece missing in the doorway and the window to the inside actually showed the outside.

I also agree that your walking animation was pretty good, but was a bit choppy in other places (especially the beginning, it seemed like things were moving in slow motion meaning you probably needed to up the framerate).  I think the story would be entertaining and could be complemented well with some work with your animation and sets.

I admire your ambition to make a 40 minute film, that would be truly spectacular, but it would be better to start small.  Starting on a big project like this may leave you discouraged and if you want to put that much time into, you want it to be the best that it can be.  I hope to see more from you in the future, and if you ever need help with voicing or anything, I'd be glad to assist in any way I could. mini/smile

P.S. Do you have a shortage of minifigure hair pieces?  It seemed like almost all the people in this video were bald. mini/lol

Re: Trailer - Legend Of Argonia

Hey there Backyardstudios!

What did you mean by I need to improve on my animation, as in the dialog?
I watched the tutorials, thanks for that Backyardstudios, but I actually do

the dialog pretty well, however on the first scene, that was all 15fps, no less,
however I made the mistake of extending the frame while they were turning,
I was aware of this, and let it happen, as at the time, I did not have a better
alternative. Thanks I'm glad you like the walking, its great to know.

The rest of the scenes may have felt quicker for you and others, but the reason
is to remember it is a trailer and not a film, trailers tend to go fast paced,
as they only have a small amount of time to sell themselves, and since there was
less dialog and more animation, that's also probably why it felt quicker.

Also one question, with easing in and out does that go for sword fights, fist
fights and other fight scenes? Is it all easing in and out? I thought you just
do small increments then make a big leap from point a to point b?

And I totally agree with you, practices make success, I'll continue to practice.
As I would love to do this film, I have quite a lot figured out, some things,
that I still need to work on, and as you said, just keep practicing which I will.

And thanks for your reply, really appreciate your feedback and critizm!

Hey there 0DonkeyKong,
I 100% agree with you on fixing up the sets, as you may or may not know, I do
have alot of lego, however being just bricks, with different colors is a downfall
I don't have alot of curves, horizontal or vertical bricks, to make nicer
scenes, yet. But I will work more on it in my next film, For the first scene,
It was meant to be inside the city in an isolated part of the village were it was
were people preached and talked.

Also the black backdrop was not intended nor on purpose in my frame capture soft-
ware it did not show that at all, which is a shame, otherwise you would not have
noticed it.

I'm glad you liked the dungeon like area, I enjoyed making it.
Also with the holes and the door, which holes did you mean? By looking at

it, from what I see was on purpose, unless your talking about something else?

The third scene was as you said a courtyard type scene, nice observing, and yes
it probably could of used a green base plate, however you just can't really buy
large base plates green anymore unless online, I only have medium sized ones, and
smaller ones, which would not have done this scene, but I can agree, it could
have used some grassy outdoor texture.

The fourth scene, with the door the piece was not missing but was a 2x2 piece
used as I did not have any 1x1 pieces at the time, which is also like that on
the other side.
The window showing the back, could have been fixed however was used more as an
entrance to their home/city.

The animation at the beginning all the way to the end, was done at 15fps.
However, the frames were extended at my fault. I was aware of this for the
first scene, but left it. I do relize it now.

Thank you! I'm glad you believe it could have potential and some entertainment,
that's exactly what I want in it, entertainment, lore, history, stories, fights,
romance, comedy, betrayal a bit of everything if possible.

Thank you for admiring my ambition, I am very motivated when set to a task,
but alas I do agree, with you and Backyard studios.
I will start small scenes, most likely for this film, and eventually put it up
as one whole film, I'm having trouble at the moment uploading the characters, as
its not working at the moment, though when it does be sure to check them out
in the preproduction thread!

I'm glad to hear that you look forward to seeing more from me, I'll be sure to
put more films, asap, and I would like to get voices, instead of just my own,
so with my next film, I'll let you know!

Do you have a shortage of hair?

Haha, no I don't, to be honest, I don't know why I didn't use minifig hairs, I
have so many, different ones, and did not use them, when I upload the characters
their the ones I want to use, and you will notice some with hair, also the girls
hair really disappointed me as I had very nice long girly hair and did not use,
due to misplacing it into another place.

Thanks again for your review guys, I really appreciate it.

Kind regards, Generalned

Re: Trailer - Legend Of Argonia

The hole in the door was near the top of the door like the hole in the wall was too big for the door.  I found this baseplate http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?col … itemID=710 on bricklink, but I have seen then at Walmart before for about $5 and I think it could work.  I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Re: Trailer - Legend Of Argonia

I appreciate the bricklink link you gave me, but as I said I have those, and they are not the large ones I was talking about the 50x50 baseplates for green and with that I'd have to get a few, also I don't have walmart as I don't live in America!

But I'll figure something out no worries!
