Re: YouTube

Just uploaded my latest video as a scheduled upload (so it's not out quite yet, sorry) and YouTube's Content ID has already spotted the copyrighted music I used in part of it. However, I have complete and total rights by the artist to use the song. If need be, I can get permission in writing as well. I disputed the claim already and I'm hoping I'll be able to monetize the video. Has anyone else ever had a similar situation and got the claim resolved and was able to monetize?

Re: YouTube

I had something like that with The Shrouded Past when I made it.  It gave me the "this may contain copyright material, do you wish to monotize still" or whatever the message was.  The only thing in it that it could have been was the NNN theme from the Nightly News at Nine, but David gave me permission to use it.  It came back and said it has copyright material and wouldn't let me montize.  It wasn't worth it to me to look into it more, since I'd never actually make anything.
So my answer is no, I wasn't able to get it resolved.  But I didn't try very hard.

I tried to appeal a video that had music a friend made for me. I got his permission, and appealed - but I still haven't heard anything back. This was about 7 months ago.

Re: YouTube

Well, they've changed the appeal process since then and now it gives me a time at which I will have a response. It says "Your dispute await response by 03/15/13". So tomorrow. I just am unsure whether or not I should wait and see how it pans out and release this video, or add like a high pass filter or something to tweak the song ever so slightly and then re-upload. Because the song is used several times throughout the video and it only detected the last time I used it, which was the one time I used the original without any sound design. If I were to do a re-upload, I'm still not sure whether it would let me monetize or not though.

I may end up keeping this video as scheduled and uploading an altered version and see if it passes the review. If not, I'll end up releasing the video which has the Content ID claim being investigated.

Re: YouTube

It's Youtube at it's best, when you have a permission to use the music yet it doesn't help much (hopefully it will, good luck, pal!).

What can I do now? Because I really want to use my full name on Youtube.

Here's my channel:

Great news, this problem is now solved on my channel! mini/bigsmile

Oh, I can understand why Vimeo didn't like that, then. In their guidelines:

You must own or hold all necessary rights (copyrights, etc.) to your video.

Usually the music is not an issue, as there are plenty of videos using copyrighted music.
Have you actually tried posting these on Youtube? There are so many tribute films and other things created by editing together existing footage, and I don't know how often they get removed.

the music was the issue, not the video clips - in regards to Vimeo. These videos had been up for months, nearly 30 of them - and the other day, all around the same time they were all taken down because of the use of the copyrighted songs (they were all by the same artist). I tried posting these videos on YouTube in the past but were automatically blocked worldwide because of the songs in them.

Re: YouTube

http://www.youtube.com/onechannel
this actually sounded like a good idea. And then I looked at what it was actually supposed to be. This is the worst thing ever!! a channel should not look like Youtube's homepage in my opinion. It's just ugly. I am going to just stall switching until it's required.

Re: YouTube

I'm pretty sure I have already ranted about this... Oh well

The design on phones and tablets makes sense where space is limited but it certainly doesn't and looks terrible on the pc mini/sad
The new homepage/channel design for PC is too cluttered and doesn't make full use of the available space even on small screens. The use of a non automatically resizing design is pretty poor considering YouTube is one of the world's largest websites!

Also the new home page's default tab is 'What To Watch' which is useless because it places videos from 2 years ago or that I just watched amongst my subscriptions. Also on the mobile app there is no way to see 'uploads only' and as a result I often miss new videos because my feed is clogged up with the fact someone I'm subscribed to's comments or likes.

I haven't uploaded to YouTube for the same reason.

edit: just tried uploading 2 of my music videos to dailymotion, both rejected for copyright infringement.

Thought Vimeo was more lose about that stuff. Guess not.

Vimeo is actually far more stricter about copyright stuffs than YouTube. YouTube will give you warnings or take some features away from you, but Vimeo instantly deletes your account, with no warning.

Re: YouTube

Yeah but I understand them to be more understanding towards people who actually have permission to use the music.
Like here is a non-official video using music from Sigur Ros. And on their website faq it says that you can use their music for noncommercial purposes. So that, along with the other videos with their music, aren't taken down.
Also, congrats Larry! mini/smile

Re: YouTube

Has any one lost views because of youtube, on my PC, my total video views is 7,716 views, when its supposed to be well over 8,000. But on my phone my total views is 8,096 views. Has this happened to anyone before?

Yeah, I did have 'bout 31,000, but now I'm down to 28,277.
Oh and I've been losing subscribers like billyo, Of coarse, that could be because my brickfilms recently have been so disappointing. mini/tongue

Re: YouTube

I lost 3000 views

Re: YouTube

Same thing happened to me, and that's harsh funmi.  I was at about 1.5 thousand, but then it dropped down to about 750 some views.

For those wondering why you are losing so many views... http://www.repellingspider.com/2013/02/ … anges.html

Re: YouTube

Funnily enough, because I don't have any unlisted videos (and my old videos that I removed had little views) I only lost ~500 views, so I don't really care.

On another note though, what do you guys think about the theory that the bigger you get, the bigger you keep getting (meaning that the more subscribers you have, the easier it is to gain more). I've done a bit of research and I think this is pretty true. Also fun fact: the search results are based on likes and dislikes, meaning that a large number of either will bring you further on the front page of search results (yes, even dislikes!).
