Nope, YouTube never listens.
And that sad thing is, no matter how many people complain, they will still force everyone to switch to it.
Tips to get ready
1) Create a channel trailer to get people to subscribe
On your new channel, you can show a trailer that will only appear to viewers who aren’t already subscribed to your channel. This is your chance to let visitors know what your channel is all about and tell them why they should subscribe! Keep it short and to the point, and include a clear call to action inviting your audience to subscribe.
Trust me, oh I'll make a trailer of your new channel. ![]()

My, I thought it couldn't get any worse ![]()
YouTube is becoming a white and barren place, soon you will be forced to only upload videos in black and white unless you are VEVO or some TV channel....
On a serious note they are making it harder and harder to stand out, I find it impossible to find some of the people I subscribe to's videos and it is becoming SUCH AN UGLY WEBSITE GRRRRAAAAAAHHH!!!! (rage over)
The new soon-to-be layout is so cluttered now with the sidebars and everything. Why can't they just stick with one thing for once?
I'm just going to live with this new layout, for all I know I might like it better than the current one.
My biggest concern is the lack of individuality, and whilst I agree with the majority of what Repelling Spider says in his blogpost, I still don't like it whatsoever. The whole point of your YouTube channel is to showcase your creativity, and a loud white universal background with a mess of writing around it and a few tiny pictures does no such thing.
Overall, Google won't listen, but I'd be a whole lot happier if you could merely get your own backgrounds.
I would like to blame my drop in views on the re-designs, but I think the real reason is simply that I haven't been able to make anything recently, and with a few exceptions I generally make whatever I want rather then pandering to trends. (Although, when I uploaded stuff in the Christmas holidays they both got less views than I have subscribers)
Yeah, my views have dropped these days, too. Back in late 2011 and early 2012, I had about an average of 400 views per video. Now, it's about 150 per video. ![]()

It looks like a homepage!
I'm beginning to think that may be the point.
YouTube makes their money off of advertisers and partnered channels, so they push for a design that lends itself to advertising.
Hopefully they'll just keep this design to the partnered channels, but if not, we'll learn to live with it like all the previous design changes.
In my opinion it looks okay (nothing too special) and I'm okay with it. I do hope for custom wallpapers at least, just because of the cool things you can do with them. en/disabling sidebars would also be a nice feature in general, just because I find that I'm not really using the guide as much.
The new design for the playlist page (if you click on them the page you get with all the videos in it) looks like crap though. I like the big thumbnails, but they're all so bunched together, it makes it look crowded and sloppy.
(laughs hysterically) That's a funny joke.
In all seriousness, I hope this will only affect partnered users. If not, only those who are more popular (i.e. smosh, Annoying Orange, VEVO, Shane Dawson, to name a few).

Taking away the attention from the youtube layout, mind if I ask a question?
I'm planning on making a film which pokes fun at a particular song (in good meaning) and I'm planning on having my characters talk over it as it plays in the background. Later on the song also plays with the lyrics being misinterpreted to the animation playing in the background. I don't plan on using the whole song, but I'm wondering if this could cause Youtube to have problems with it under copyright? Never really done something with copyrighted music in it before, so I'm rather noob at it.
Using any amount of a copyrighted song is a no no. Unless you re-write and re-sing lyrics your own way and also if you re-make the melody/instrumental version yourself (it may sound similar to original but if it's not exactly the same notes and etc it can be used). This goes with the exception if you get a permission from the copyright owners OR if you're willing to take a risk and upload it anyway (your video may be taken down or muted though).
P.S. I have even seen some kids monetize a video with copyrighted music in it and they seem to get away with it (for now) so I guess you could still get away with it
however it is illegal and I do not recommend doing so.

Larry is right, it's illegal. But here's some tips assuming that you don't mind.
It depends on the copyright holder's stance on things.
I've got a few background tracks, and even though it says Acknowledged third party content they don't threaten to take it down. And in fact, there are a LOT of music videos on YT with copyrighted music.
If the rights holder doesn't mind, then sometimes they'll put an ad for that song beside the description, but nothing more. If it does mind, the video will be removed fairly quickly.
You could give it a try be uploading something with the song, keeping it unlisted, and seeing what happens.
More likely than not, it'll be fine. And who knows, YT's software ain't perfect, so it may not even detect it, in which case you'd be safe-ish.
Look here for the possible consequences.
If the rights-holder wants it removed, it will be, and you get a strike on your account. Three strikes, you're off YT.
If they don't care, or allow it to remain on YT, then either nothing will happen, or the sound will be muted.
So yeah, IF you want to risk it, try uploading an unlisted test video and watching what happens. ![]()
Oh, and my knowledge is based more on soundtracks, so the leniency on stuff with lyrics may not be the same.
Alright. Thanks for the information guys! I'm not going to take any risks. I'll see what I can do instead.
Thanks for the tips as well regarding how to make it into a parody.
try just slightly increasing the speed on the song. Just a little bit. Make it shorter by just a few seconds.
With it sped up, YouTube's special third party content detector won't pick it up since it doesn't sound exactly like the original. Plenty of people get away with it using that method. If it's not too much of a difference, people watching won't even notice the change.
Your use would probably fall under fair use so claim that. Because it is a parody.

Most likely it would not fall under fair use if he is using parts of the original recording. Fair use would be for if it is indeed a complete and true parody.
