Topic: THAC X Starts NOW! [CLOSED]
The 24 hours are over! Click here to watch all the entries and click here to see the results!
The tenth sort-of-annual Twenty-four Hour Animation Contest begins NOW!
The theme is "A Grand Unveiling". The mod elements are a white brick connected to a grey brick and the letter M. Now go and make a film!
But for those of you who are feeling a little less brazen…
Your entry must be entirely made and submitted during the 24 hour period. To prove this, the mod elements (detailed below) must appear in every frame of your animation. You can see how long there is left on the contest by clicking here.
Your entry must consist primarily of LEGO (or similar building-block toy) stop-motion animation. CGI, live-action or other forms of video may be used to supplement it, but the brickfilming must be the focus.
Your entry must consist of at least 30 seconds of stop-motion animation.
No mature/explicit content is allowed. This includes, but is not limited to: swearing, excessive violence, overt sexual content etc. The site is family-friendly and we ask that the contest entries are too.
You must not make your film public until the deadline has passed. This is to prevent stealing of ideas and to make the grand unveiling of all the entries more exciting!
Use of copyrighted material (including music) is allowed.
The theme for this year's contest is "A Grand Unveiling". You may interpret this however you like, just stick to the rules!
The mod elements are a white brick connected to a grey brick and the letter M. To prove that you made your film within the time limit, at least one of the mod elements must appear in every frame of your animation.
The grey brick can be any shade, light or dark (excluding black and white).
The letter may be upper or lower case, mirrored and/or rotated however you like.
Adding the mod elements digitally does not count, they must actually be in the scene.
Minifig parts (e.g. a white torso attached to grey legs) count towards the colour mod, but bricks connected to baseplates do not.
You do not need to include either mod in titles, credits, or any other parts of your film that are entirely digital.
You can get creative with how you hide the mods! For example, this head has two lower-case Rs on his face. His collar also looks like an W or an M… Any of these would be acceptable if the mod was these letters.
Send a link to where your film can be viewed to harry(at)zootproductions(dot)com before 12pm (midday) GMT on Sunday, December 30 2012. Unless I am asleep, I will reply as soon as it arrives to confirm that your submission has been received, and add you to the list below.
Make the subject of your email in this format:

Each judge will simply pick which films they like the best. There will be no individual scores for animation, special effects, set design etc. so this should hopefully mean judging is a fairly quick process.
First, second and third place will receive a collectible minifigure from series 1-8 of their choice. But don't be disheartened if you don't win - to have completed a THAC is an impressive feat in itself!
Some entrants like to document their THAC experience in video blog form, then edit it together after the contest ends to show people how much work went into cramming the entire filmmaking process into such a short amount of time.
Here's some examples of THACumentaries from previous contests: (1 2 3)
If you have Twitter, you can tag your tweets with #thacx. Share your process, frames from your film, how tired you're feeling or whatever - I look forward to reading it all.
You can keep people updated on the progress of your film in The THAC X Update Thread.
A Skype group chat has been set up for entrants to talk about the contest together. To join that, add harrybossert (that's me!) or moviefigure to your contacts and we will be able to add you to it.
We also have an IRC channel (chatroom) which I will be sitting in for much of the 24 hours should you have any questions, or just want to chat about THAC. You can find the link to that just below "Other Films" in the forum index.
I wish you all the best of luck in completing your entries. See you in twenty-four hours!
