What? I don't understand what you mean. Christmas trees are green. ![]()
I think he means the green on the wall. With both the repeated stripes, and the tree being the same color as some of the wall, it produces a very weird color-scheme.
Truthfully, green/red striping looks pretty odd on it's own. Both colors are bold, bright and eye-catching on their own, but when they're combined in that way, things get kinda wild and crazy. You should reduce the wall to one major color covering the majority of the wall, and then one color to be a single, one layer thick, stripe around two-thirds of the way up the wall. A good idea would also be changing one of the colors to black, white, or at least something a little more neutral.
Remember, you want the emphases on the presents and/or the tree, not the technicolor wall. ![]()
...this young gent. Can you guess who he is?
Tintin?
And I agree, that the green backdrop detracts from the focus of the picture.

Congrats! You got it right.
Here are some pictures of a set I've pretty much finished building for a short Chima animation (I'm still making Caden Hawke, but I'm just working out some issues with the story/script. Though I'd do something else in the meantime).

When I say short, it will only be a couple of minutes long (hopefully no longer than 4 at the very most), but will have an almost-self-contained story, one that's definitely a lot clearer and more coherent than in Green Lantern: Apocalypse. I'm looking forward to (hopefully) using some basic CGI landscapes that I made in Bryce as well. It'll be quite VFX heavy, thinking about it, but should be good. It's called The Ring of Huoan.
I really like what you've done with the rocks.
I like that head, I need to look at that new line.
It feels like it it needs a cool background, like several pillars of jagged rock in the distance, and the top is too square.
Also, it feels weird that the crystal on the thingy is smallest, I know it's really nicely cut, but it looks a little sad compared to the big ones. Perhaps you should have it be a special colour or use a bigger crystal. The area with crystals could use a few random transblue studs.
It would be really cool if you hat some coloured lights shining upon the fire.

Yeah, the crystal is too small. The whole thing started when I got this set and was trying to make separate environments for the two characters, and that jewel was one of the only pieces left when I was done. I do need a bigger crystal for that, or some kind of altar instead.
And I totally agree about the lights on the fire. For the mo I'm going to have to make it glow a little in post, which won't look as good, but once I've dug out more of my lights (I changed room a while ago and still haven't unpacked everything) I'll try and get onto that. You're right, it would look awesome.
BTW the Chima stuff is surprisingly awesome.
I look forward to it mate, I like ur films, u actually inspired me to make a green lantern one to, and it was quite VFX heavy.....
Nice, really liking the cliff design. And the flames remind me of a Johnny Cash song... ![]()
Looks really nice. The cliff/rocks and the ring of fire are the best part, imo. However, how do you plan on animating all that flame?
How do you plan on animating all that flame?
At the moment, I don't. Sadly, I'm not using it in its current form. I did several animation tests using various methods, and it just didn't work, so I'm trying to find another way of constructing it to make animation possible. A friend of mine suggested doing it entirely CG, but with my lack of CG skills it'd look awful.
Anyone have any ideas?
Another alternative to CG is just piling a bunch of stock footage of flames together. Film Riot has a nifty episode showing exactly how to do it. They do a great job at explaining how to do a lot of different VFX. I'd recommend their channel to anyone trying to learn VFX.
When I make a living room, I need to decorate it and make it less boring... So, what should I do? I'm adding a painting and window.. What else? Should I make the floor an interesting carpet design?
I would leave the floor plain, but you could a coffee table, a bookshelf, a side table with a lamp on it. That sort of thing. If you've seen the ending of my "Snake" video I had a living room with lots of stuff in it.
I know this is low resolution, but I'm currently working on sets for a new action flick and this is sort of a wide open room that has some sort of device displayed on a table at the far end (as seen on the left). Any ideas of how to make it look more interesting. I'm usually really good with set design, but not a lot is coming to me for this one.

It's better to use a floor made of plates or bricks than to have figures on the actual base plate.

I almost always animate on the base plate and things work fine. The only thing doing plates or bricks would help me for would be changing up the design of the floor, if that's what you're meaning.
I just think that they look better, and I find is difficult to animate on base plates, the studs are more loose.
You should have a light above the table though, shining onto it, to add more emphasis on the importance of the item there (since I assume that it's the objective of the mission, I just think it would look cool.)
Now here is my vampire castle set I built for THAC X
Because of time constraints, I cut out this scene, but I still spent loads of time upon this so I would have extra sets for THAC.

Please tell me that you're planning on filming something on that set. Because that's just plain amazing.
And I don't see how, but you always manage to top yourself with these incredible creations.
The stained-glass window, the outer wall, the intimidating fence, (And really just about everything) are all perfect.
The only flaws are the light-grey hinges for the doors, and the 1X5 cylinders (By the doors) just sticking up with no decoration or topper.
I see that you're using your "cool castle background" from the last page as the interior. So in case you didn't notice, I actually stole that arch design from above the stained-glass window for use in my THAC film.
....difficult to animate on base plates, the studs are more loose.
So that's what the problem is! Funny thing is, I'm just about used to it by now.
Thanks. ![]()
Yeah, those design flaws really bugged me. I didn't know what to do about the hinges since I only had it in light grey, and I really didn't want to completely redesign it with other doors or add more grey around there for a natural transition.
I was also kinda lazy with those poles, and I had no idea what to do there so I just left it.
I designed this set on the day before THAC, I was really, really sleepy all day and totally out of it. Even after spending a large portion of the day sleeping. So I didn't have much time then to get it perfect, as I was also going to bed for the night really early.
I didn't fix it afterwards because I'm not planing on filming anything on this now. ![]()
I recently started typing up a script for a huge film called Vampire Cinema in which I'll probably use that Vampire as the primary Character, Lord Redgrave, but hopefully with the new vampire face, since it has a better expression more fitting of Redgrave's general mood on things.
I won't be using this castle because it won't work with the film, and filming will be a long way off anyway, I'll need these pieces for I Am The Night.
Just typing the script will probably take many weeks (He he, first time I've typed a script taking longer than a day).
