Re: YouTube

So the phenomenon of gaming videos is completely beyond me and I don't find any enjoyment in them at all (except Happy Wheels.) I also do not play video games, like, ever. I do know however that lots of people like the videos, and the majority of these people are avid gamers. Sure, the fact that they are way more successful than lego films despite taking a fraction of the effort annoys me, but my real pet peeve is the commercialization of Youtube. I'd like to have a place where content is new, creative, unique and user-made, and this is the real reason why I do not watch channels such as Smosh or RWJ. But really there is nothing I can do about it because the majority opinion is the opposite of mine. So that is why I do not complain anymore about the undeserved popularity.

Re: YouTube

I put Game Grumps on in the background when I'm animating. It's funny.

Re: YouTube

I think you kinda missed my point. No, that is exactly why I am avoiding talking about it. I know I don't like watching them because I don't play games, my reply was to Larry's post.

I have no idea why people watch gaming videos in the first place. I only watch a walkthrough video from time to time and that's only because I can't pass some mission on Arkham City or other game I play. Gaming videos are quite pointless, they require little to no effort yet they receive quite a lot of attention. Ridiculous.

Re: YouTube

Mindgame and I went through this exact discussion like two pages ago. Just sayin'.

Re: YouTube

Actually, gaming videos helped me become better at minecraft, so that I knew what to do in memory when I bought/played the game.

Re: YouTube

I wrote that and canceled it. I meant not to post it, but I guess it went through anyway mini/XD

Congrats! The more subscribers you have the faster that count will grow, we humans tend to act in a "monkey see monkey do" way, which means a channel with good videos and 61 subscribers will not impress us as much as a channel with the same content but with 500 subscribers mini/smile which means more likely a viewer will subscribe to a larger one. Anyways, these are my thoughts based on my experiences when I found amazing channels with very little popularity and popular ones with quite horrendous animations. Good luck!

Freaking heck.

But seriously, I am personally don't automatically think that a channel with more subscribers is automatically better than a channel with the same content but less subscribers (i.e. I love BlackNerdComedy, who has 76K subscribers, but I think JennaMarbles, who has similar content, but 5 million subscribers, is dreadful).

I will always be more impressed by the quality of someones work over the number of subs they have, even if it is a ridiculous amount.
And to the 60 people who subscribed, I love you. mini/love

Perhaps I should've mentioned that my theory applies to non-animators rather than us. We brickfilmers tend to have a little different taste. A good example is this and I do not mean to offend anyone so please don't get offended mini/wink I am subbed to both of these channels and I do like both of 'em:

So, these two channels both have 28 videos.

One is known as "Michael Hickox" - X and the other is "Nick Durron" - Y. Now let's see the stats...

X channel has 63K+ subscribers.             Y channel has 7K+ subscribers.
X channel has good brickfilms.                Y channel has marvelous brickfilms.
X chanel has 81million views.                 Y channel has over 2million views.

What does that say about our audience? In my opinion it's the monkey see monkey do effect at it's best. The other interesting factor is views and subscribers ratio, Roughly Y channel has 40 times less views yet only 9 times less subscribers. That's something to think about as well mini/wink

Re: YouTube

So recently Youtube videos have started to load very slowly/not at all. I've re-installed Flash and checked if there was something wrong with my internet (which there wasn't). This also seems to happen on the mobile app/site although not as much. Is anybody else experiencing the same?
