Well, I thought it would make sense to separate my feedback on other people's posters and my own.

It's a decent design overall, Flying Minifig, but the image quality/stylization looks really bad to me. While I can tell that at least some of it is intentional, it just does not impress.

Please enlighten me as to what I can do to improve it!  The picture itself wasn't the greatest when I took it, as I was pretty rushed at the time and I didn't have access to the lighting setup I'd normally used.  I was going for a posterized effect, though.

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

You may have been intentionally going for the posterized effect but it's just not really a good... effect. Combined with the visual noise of the image, I would take another go at it.

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

Wow everyone! Those posters are amazing.
Loic & Smeagol, great styles. Love the coloring of both of them, very crisp.

Flying Minifig - I agree with Jargon, maybe try it with a different effect or just without one. The posterized effect usually gives it kind of a "cheap" feel, & I think you can do better!

Here's a promo type thing for an upcoming music video I'm working no for a band out of Duluth. Not really a movie poster, but figured I'd post it here.

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

Looking good Olson. I like the "sepia" layer over the image. mini/smile

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

The contrast is not perfect, but I love the sepia mini/bigsmile

Nice job Olson!

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

Nice poster, Olson. The soft tones fit with the acoustic, rustic overall scene of the picture.

Also, if you don't mind me asking, what's the song that you will be using?

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

Flyingminifig, I kinda like the composition but I agree that the posterization color effect doesn't serve it very well.

Nice DOF, Olson. I dig the Brickforge (?) guitar.

Here's a poster for my latest live action short. Here's the film itself.

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

@JP - The song is indeed called "Cold", which is the single off their latest album.

@Smeagol - Nice poster Smeag.
Great choice using the chess board on the poster, after watching the film it is especially fitting. I love the colors of it as well. The only this that doesn't quite do it for me is the font used on the credits at the bottom. I love the font style on the title itself, but something about the way it looks at the bottom... not sure. Overall, looks great, and great job on the film as well.

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

Great poster, Smeagol! I really enjoyed this short film of yours, in fact I think it's my favorite film of yours so far. As far as the poster goes, it's wonderful! The only thing I think could have looked a bit better was what Olson was mentioning about the same stylistic font appearing for the bottom credits.

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

I considered some other fonts for the credits. I didn't like the style inconsistency it created, especially considering the small amount of text involved. In retrospect this poster reminds me a little of the poster for Moonrise Kingdom given the unorthodox font choice for the credits.

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

I agree with everything said here. I indeed did think of Moonrise Kingdom, and that font choice is great for the retro photograph. About the bottom text, the font makes it feel a bit odd but I'm not sure if that problem is solvable.

Well, time for me to watch the film now!! mini/bigsmile

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

Thanks for the critique on my poster!  I'll be taking another stab at making one and see how it works out. mini/smile

Smeagol:  It looks great, but I think the font doesn't look like it quite fits in.  I don't mind the same font for the credits so much, but I think it needs to be a different colour and contrast more with the rest of the poster.

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

Sméagol: The poster idea is nice, but there's something that doesn't look right. Although I'm not sure what it is, it may be the excessive space between the chess pieces and the text above: you could try fix that by putting the title above the pieces. The quality of the photo also looks a bit grainy.

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

I think it might no be entirely about the font used, but to me the text at the bottom seems perhaps a little too large. Otherwise it looks great, I love the lighting on it and the chess board fits very well with whatever it is placed on, I'm guessing perhaps the stone table from the film...?

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

Photoshopped the backdrop behind the board, but it's supposed to look like the table from the film yes.

Looks really cool. I assume it's going to be from the shepherds' point of view? mini/smile

Thanks! And sort of, it's mainly Luke 2:9-18 be shown in LEGO.

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

I'm working (very early stages) on a crime drama "A Bad Citizen". It's gonna be a slow paced drama focused film (instead of focusing on violence and fast pace like I try usually).
